Where can I buy a slickside M16 bolt carrier? There has to be cheaper alterantives that the $190 ones I see for sale.
Maybe I am not looking in the right places? |

$180 - $190 is very reasonable for a new slick side carrier group. I see used ones go for more on the online auctions.
These are very special items nowadays, mostly for retro collectors so you will not find a large selection of manufacturers making them. Actually the only one I know of is YM who make a slick side chrome plated carrier. Currently, I am just using a modern BCG in my 60's vintage Colt until I have enough free cash to buy the correct one. |
| Only real reason to buy slickside carrier would be for a period correct retro clone. That is the reason they bring so much. Getting the right carrier key, carrier and bolt only really matters on the real early stuff and to a limited group of individuals. Haven't been made in 40 years (autheintic Colt), kinda drives up the price. Demand out weighs supply. Parkerized version is much more rare than chrome version also. |

Its not for a retro build, I am using an upper without the FA and wanted a slickside carrier. I guess I will have to pony up then.....damn. |

Young Manufacturing makes slickside bolt carriers in chrome, phosphate, semi,auto,SP1 ,with or without heir logo.
Also BCG's as well. The stripped,(i MEAN stripped) SP1 carriers were $95 If you don't know, theSP1 carriers are cut back farther on the bottom than the semi, which are cut back farther then the autos. Each get lighter as metal's removed. All are legal in and of themselves. |

Also, what upper do you have? Been thinking of a slickside build myself. |

I bought an upper without the FA but with the brass deflector. I thought that looked cool and saved just a little weight. I got the upper from Les Baer.
Be forewarned thoguh. The upper didnt fit my lower, or any of my lowers for that matter. It was a REALLY tight fit and the lugs barely fit inside the lower and the takedown pins wouldnt go in all the way. I called and spoke to Les about that and he said all his uppers are milled to the high side of spec so that they can be matched to a lower. I had to send the upper and my lower back to him so he could ream the upper to the lower. He is matching them up for me at not cost except shipping. I stated he should mention the matching part on his site so people know. |
