The XM177E2 had a delta (or at least a curved) ring on it. The M16A1 and the 653/M16A1 carbine used slip rings. Both of these models were produced for years after the XM177E2. We all know the delta ring is easier. Why didn't Colt use the delta for the later produced 16A1 and 653 (since they had it way back on the XM177E2)? Thanks.....Chad |

I had assumed this was the case. Seems like the TDP could have specified the delta on the carbine as it was a "new" offering. Good ol' Army keepin' thing the same. Ekie, was/is this original XM177E2 delta ring the same as the current ones we use today? Thanks.....Chad |
Don't know if it had been made for the E2 or not, but except for being a lighter color , the delta ring I bought back around 1981 or 82 was exactly the same as the current piece. It's still on my XM177E2 clone |
