Just recently heard of these. The company is apparently based in Denmark, and I think a few US vendors sell them. In a sea of polymer mags, I'm not sure what they have to recommend them. Anyone familiar? https://www.smartmag.com/ |

Never heard of them, but I'm sure they're probably fine for range use. Seems like a marketing gimmick to me. Not sure how locking the bolt back with 1 rd left in the mag is better, safer, faster, etc. You're just changing the flow of when/how to reload but I can't see it being any better. From the site: The R6´s SMART-Follower locks the bolt back when one round is left in the mag. SMARTMAG advantages: • Increased Safety • Faster Emergency Reload • Problem solving feedback • Simpler weapon manipulation in general For competition shooting this will result in a much faster and motion efficient emergency reload. The fact that one round remains chambered even when emergency reloading, has obvious safety advantages for home defense, military & LE applications. WHENEVER you have a bolt lock, you will have one round left. Then, Drop Bolt on the last round in your mag. Drop the now-empty mag. Find and insert a new mag. The round from the empty mag is already chambered and was fed from the mag that already fired 30 rounds. Edit: Maybe one of the high speed tacticool operator types that wear 5.11 everything can help out? |

Yeah, going by their website the newer production mags have gone to a regular anti-tilt follower. So maybe the Smart follower was less than successful. As near as I can tell these have been out for 9 or 10 years but have been well below the radar. Possibly the Danish military uses them? Rainier Arms has these on sale in singles, five-packs, and ten-packs. So they have seen at least some presence on the US market. |

Fixing a problem that does not exist! When I clicked on this thread I thought it was a magazine with a digital round count to empty. |
So... I find comfort in the fact that if Trump has to work so hard to go to Heaven, then there is a shit load of Democrats that have no f-cking chance to go anywhere but HELL. Sometimes it is entirely appropriate to kill a fly with a sledge-hammer.
| So, as I understand it, if you drop the bolt to chamber the last round, then you are trying to seating a new magazine on a closed bolt? And how many times have we experienced a full mag not wanting to seat all the way on a closed bolt? Isn't this the reason for the mag slap when inserting a new mag? Remember all the discussions we have had over the years about downloading by one round in the magazine to prevent full mags from not seating on a closed bolt? So, it seems all you are doing is creating a possible problem of the mag falling out or not chambering the round when called on due to the mag not being seated all the way and locked in. I think I'll pass on this item. |

Bought a few to try out. Seems solidly built with a strong spring but that can be said of many mags. Packaging looks cool, but other than that - run-of-the-mill polymer mags. Packaging is marked "Made In Scandinavia"  " target="_blank">https://i.imgur.com/ggdMjqvl.jpg
