How many barrels does 1.5 million rounds of 8mm burn up? If we assume 25k per Mauser that is 60 mausers worth. At 100 rounds a day that is 41 years worth of ammo. That is 1667 cases of yugo. At a wag of 50lbs per case that is 83,350lbs of 8mm. I think your buddy needs to sell a bit more than half.  |

Unless he has been buying for 6-9 months the 70s yugo has been gone for a while. I only snagged one case of the 70s stuff.

| I hate people buying all the ammo just to make a buck but that is capitalism and if I could get the wife to let me do it I might do it but with a 10-15% increase. I would be pissed more but why should I get a heart attack for one guy buying ammo when I can just buy 2 cases a month do to $$$ restrictions. Wish I had some of your jobs. |

There's probably enough ammo - as is - in this country to hold off the world's 5 largest armies. I love it. I love this country. God Bless the USA, virtually the only free country in the world left whose citizenry still takes stockpiling small arms and ammunition for their own defense seriously. The rest just sell it off to us for our dollars. Take notice. Contrary to popular free-world belief, the not-so-free nation's armies of oppression continue as before to stockpile. Russia, China, N Korea, to include their minions....and now nations in the Middle East and Latin America. Ammo hoarding for speculation, profit and ego is great, but that alone won't preserve anyone's freedom. Now how's that training coming?  The answer is...... I dunno.  I think anyone that says 100,000 makes you an "ammo whore in training" is severely deluded. I know some ammo whores, but none that have over 100,000. I only have around 18K of centerfire.

Not nice to call names. That's my opinion and I don't see where that can be wrong. Not that any of this matters one way or another as it's just for fun but I think if you make the number 10k like someone else here said then most of arfcom would be ammo whores and to me it shouldn't be something easily done. On that note I think 100k in not easily done but do-able so to go from there is truely an ammo whore in my book as it takes a little more dedication. |

Just kidding dude!  I think the problem is "what is an ammo whore" to someone on Arfcom is a completely different thing than to someone who isn't. The latter group would probably label you an ammo whore for 1,000 rounds of anything. On Arfcom, the number is higher of course, but I would bet that not that many people own 10,000 rounds of ammo. Sure, there are quite a few who do, but those are probably a minority. I've never heard anyone claim that they own 100,000. Even dpmmn is not that big of a whore - and he's a whore of the first caliber!

I'm pretty sure fxntime is at or near 100,000 and even though dpmmn is super secretive I'm guessing he is well over that mark and those are just a couple of the regulars here in the ammo forum. |

I have a feeling that there are alot of people that have more ammo than me, I was lucky enough to be in the right job at the right time to get the numbers I have. Now on the flip side of the coin, I wish I would have bought more when I could. That perk no longer exsists for me and I miss it I'm at a comfortable number for centerfire rounds, I dont even know how much rimfire ammo I have, I have never counted any of it, except I have 3 MTM Dryboxes that each have 5,000 rounds of .22lr, and I can honestly say that I haven't spanked off any .22 at all in the last 3 years If you are serious about ammo whorin, I read something on Freds M14 Stocks page a few years ago and I use what he said as a rule. Here it is: If you buy 1,000 rounds, use 500 for practice and set away 500 for a rainy day same goes if you buy 500, use 250 for practice and 250 set away. You see how it works, and in no time at all you will be on your way to having a nice rainy day stash set aside The only thing that I have recommended latley to a few is, now that the price of ammo has gone up is to use the 70% for rainy day and 30% for practice |

85K Centerfire Rifle about 35K Centerfire handgun, maybe more, stuff in .45 is HEAVY and I don't pull it out save for to shoot it. 15-20K .22 [I shoot .22 pistol a lot, and have certain lots that shot real well for me] Thats probably as large as it'll ever get as I bought the majority of it from 02 to early 06 when prices were at their ebb. Now, save for deals which my buddy finds [It's NICE to have a friend that has a table at the shows] I've cut way back on buying ammo and over the next few years I'll probably run it down to about 1/2 that. Always been a cheapass, but years ago I decided to spend some time putting back some firearm related stuff. Never bought any on credit [I HATE owing people] but worked a LOT of overtime and on call at work which pays pretty decently in exchange for your life 24/7. It did not help that I have a great wife that always says "buy both".[%] I DO think there will be some kind of significant legislation that will either pass OR come close to passing in the next few years relating to firearms and related items. I got blindsided in 94, and decided it would not happen again, I saw what it did to firearm prices [ones I like anyhow] tho ammo was not affected due to the large amount of surp on the maket at the time. Don't think we'll ever see cheap surp like that again personally, and if it does happen, I doubt it'll be of the same quality, some of it was really good stuff. What we will see is smaller lots of it from time to time but it will be priced much higher then in past years. House will be paid off in the next few years and then I'll start looking for some vacant land [if the guy passes away next door I've got first dibs on the land] to build a range and hunt on. Hopefully it'll be at the bottom of the market and there is a good chance it well could be where I live. So, now all my OT money is going to that, not ammo, and I just can't bring myself to pay the going rate on the stuff right now anyways. As to was it worth it? Everytime I see a price increase I tell myself it was.  I couldn't bring myself to stock up at the prices today, but I don't see it going down in the near future either, especially in the 5.56 and 7.62x51 calibers. For all those with surp rifles in readily available calibers right now, buy it, there is still some really decently priced stuff out there that won't be around at those prices forever, and if some kind of import legislation ever gets passed your rifles will be worthless without it. Or, you can pay the going price on new stuff which is sometimes an eye opener.  |

I've picked up another 8 lbs of powder, 5,000 .224 bullets, 2000 357/38 bullets, 1000 38 sp brass, 1000 357 brass, 5K small pistol primers, and 5K small rifle primers since these photo's. Not sure if this makes me an "Ammo Whore" or not?

I'd modify it a little differently. I say: 1. Get a Dillon 550 2. Buy X rounds, shoot X/4 rounds for practice 3. Reload and re-shoot your X/4 rounds of brass 4 times (or more) 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 indefinitely It's cost-effective, you practice a lot, and you build up a good supply of ammo. That's my plan anyway. |

A BIG +1 to the above. I only have 15k of 22LR; so I suppose that I am not a whore in that caliber (yet). It is amazing what a single man can afford with a little saving and some overtime. I don't really want to talk pure round count numbers here just for privacy sake. I ain't got 100k of centerfire, but I am getting close. I make furniture out of ammo cases. My printer is sitting on those 8 cases of Rommy 8mm I got a couple weeks ago. It is an investment for me. I remember the $100 WOLF 7.62x39 I got last year while looking at the exact same thing now for $200. If I could have bought 1k gallons of gas 4 years ago when it was $1.15 a gallon and have it keep well; I would have done it. I am paying dang near $3 a gallon for the exact same thing now. I am also dearly afraid of another weapons/ammo ban. I want enough supplies to continue shooting for a long while if the gun/ammo SHTF legislation passes. I suppose I have nothing better to do.

Just off the top of my head.... 4,500 7.65 x 54 5,000 +/- 7.62 x 54 for certain 12,480 Danish M2 Ball (624 x 20=12,480) just thought of about 5,000 Austrian M2 Ball 4 or 5,000 Sako milsurp 9mm (really nice stuff) 3,840 Greek .303 3,200 SA .303 oh-yeah, that cool Swiss 5.56 from a few years back... oh, screw it.....my garage is 26' deep, I have one front to back wall dedicated to stacked ammo, to the ceiling... Belgian 7.62 x 51 a bunch of Radway green-6,000 or so. gave the six year old son of a friend of mine 5,000 .22 LRs for Christmas, so that makes him a starter whore? |
