Im going to get a 14.5" Midlength barrel, and to avoid not being able to switch flash hiders, Id like to solder the flash hider. Now to do this would this work?

If my understanding of it is correct, in order to keep it from being an NFA weapon, the flash suppressor has to be permanently attached. Silver Solder is an acceptable way to secure the FH per the BATF. Just make certain you are doing it correctly and that it pulls into the threads. Just like soldering a plumbing pipe, if the solder hangs out ON the join you are not correctly soldered. |

I didn't know that No problem, it doesn't make as much sense as pinning does, but the BATF says it's gtg As mentioned above though it must be done right. There's a thread that details how to do it and it shoudl be refrenced when doing it.

I have read the thread, it just said small and wanted to make sure that kit would be big enough. Its says 1/8". I work for a plumbing company so I have many very experienced solderers. Ill by the paste and the stuff from brownells. |
| It should be called 'brazing' to make sure that all understand it's not 'soft soldering'. You can use silver-alloy solder for soft-soldering but 'silver-soldering' always refers only to 'brazing'. Brazing can be done with many alloys, not just silver alloys, but these are used on sensitive steels (like guns) because they can have a lower temperature flow. Brazing requires the parts to be red-hot, usually for a few minutes. This wouldn't be a concern for a flash hider or other muzzle attachment but may affect the barrel and/or the chrome lining. I would much rather tack weld the attachment on which doesn't generate anywhere near the heat or cause as much damage. With a properly-brazed joint, it would take a lot of heat to remove the braze, particularly from the threads. |
