Well guys all good things must end, and I will cease making retro parts as of the beginning of the year.

As many of you know I lost my wife to cancer early last year. Susan's passing has brought many unwelcome but unavoidable changes; one of which is that I will be moving. This house is too big and too expensive to keep up for only one person to live here. So the house is going up for sale in the spring and there is lots to get done before then. I'll be moving to a house I already own, but it needs renovating and a shop built too. Another change is that I've found that I need to take more time for myself and for projects that I've wanted to do for years. Unfortunatly something has to give and the retro parts business has to end.

I have some stuff to machine up yet and I'll be selling what parts I have until the stock is gone, and maybe selling some of the retro parts I've set aside too. For the time being I will continue to do barrel work and special projects as time allows. I may get back into making retro parts at some point but that's too far over the horizon to tell at this point.

I regret that you guys will be losing a source of retro parts, but I'm hoping someone else will step in to fill the void. If any of you think that you might be interested in making parts please let me know, maybe we can work something out.

Thank you all for your friendship and patronage over the years; you guys are the BEST!

Regards to all,
Jerrell

I'm wishing you all the best.  What a great resource you've been for us all.  Even if you aren't making parts, I hope you stick around the forum as time allows.

Take care,

Let me start by saying I'm still fairly new here. I don't know most of you guys very well, but your name is somewhat legendary among the retro crowd as the MMWC for parts. I knew who you were and what you did even before I started posting here. I'd also like to extend my sincerest sympathies for the loss of your wife as I can only try to understand how hard that must be. I hope in the future that things will work out and you'll get back to making parts, if that's what you want. Whatever happens and whatever you decide to do, I hope we'll still see you around these parts now and then.

Good luck to you and remember, keep your pecker hard and your powder dry and the world will turn.

Jarrell, I never had the pleasure of working with you on any projects or parts, but your reputation as the king of retro fabrication has been well established. Thank you for being a major part of the retro movement, and helping to make all these sweet rifles happen.

I hope that down the line things ease up for you and you get the itch to get back at it. Until that day comes (and it will), best of luck on your transitions, you deserve some time to do what YOU want to do.

Good luck with the move and settling into your new home, and don't forget to stop by retro land to say 'hey' now and again. Oh and Merry Christmas!

Jerrell,

It was tough, but I kept things quiet until you made your announcement.

The retro community will be losing a significant resource until you get your new shop set up.

Remember, if you need anything, I'm only a state away.

You might not remember, but you helped out when I first started in retro and bought an upper with a cracked carry handle.  Never got it fixed but you came through with some parts to soften the blow of a newb mistake in trusting someone with no feedback.  I hope to follow your example and help my reto brothers (think PIF) - another great thing you started!  Best wishes!  Do what's right for you!

jerrell,

i know that without your parts, there would be a lot less correct retro rifles out there.  it's taken me years and though i have managed to track down many original parts for my builds, your parts tied me over i located originals.

i would not have even attempted a 601 build without your windage wheel and mag button.

the retro community will miss your parts but i hope you won't be a stranger.  searching through my emails, i've been bugging you for 5 years now

thanks for all the parts and custom work over the years.  my daewoo thanks you now that it has a 90 degree safety instead of 180 degrees.

good luck on getting the place restored and taking time for yourself.

While your incredible talents will be sorely missed, I'm sure no one here begrudges you the right to take care of yourself--however you best see fit.
As a group, we grieved with you when Susan passed.  Now, I'm certain, as a group we understand and support your need to move forward.

Pursue those personal projects, Jerrell.  Pursue all the best parts of life.
But do stop by now and then, if only to say hello and check on who's trying to fill your shoes.

Profitez de la vie, ami!

I wish you the best my friend. If I were closer I'd come by and help you pack things up. I know you've been doing a lot of soul-searching lately. What you do for yourself at this point is far more important than this silly hobby. I do hope we get a chance to meet next time I'm back there. I sent you a couple emails - just disregard them. Take care, and let me know if there's anything I can do.

Jerrell,

While I had not getting around to purchasing any of your parts we have spoken by email and on the phone once. You are/were a legend in the retro community but you need to take care of yourself first and here's to hoping that you won't be a stranger.

Good luck to you and I hope you find peace and joy in your endeavers!

Jerrell,
I'm sorry to hear that you're not making parts anymore, but glad you're able to move on.  I remember when we both started to make retro parts, it seems like yesterday.  I also have mostly stopped making parts, with the exception of a barrel or FH now and then, and things that catch my interest.  I'm sure you'll be busy enough with your projects.
Kind regards,
Lionel

Hey Guys, thanks for all the kind words but I'm not dying, just pulling the plug on the retro parts!! LOL. I will most certainly be around, there isn't a better place on the internet.

As for posting my projects, maybe some, but I dunnoe bout others. I'm not sure my suppressed HMR17 sniper rifle qualifies as retro. And my 70s sprint car is retro, but this is the wrong forum. Now my Gen Curtis LeMay commemorative rifle might qualify

Thanks Again!!!

Jarrell, remember back in the early days of this forum when the only way to build a "correct" retro rifle was to search for months to try to locate original surplus parts?  You've helped a lot of people here build rifles that might never have been built without your help. Your skills will be missed here in our little cyber corner of the world. Now, go take care of your needs and finish up those projects that you've been putting off. We'll see you here later.
