Turned the info I had over to Auburn, MI gunsmith. He seemed to wholeheartedly accept the mount project. Two weeks from today, I will return to the shop. Gunsmith seems enthusiastic about the project. I will develop an order form for him. Fingers crossed, gents (& ladies). Things could work out. (Praying rosary for success.) Any other projects we, as a group, require? |

Progress update: Spoke with funsmith; he LOVES the order form I designed. The machinist needs a bit more time to verify pricing on the solid bar stock he will machine for mounts. We regroup in a week. Patience, gents. Good things come to those who wait.

I think you mentioned this in another post, but I cant find it, are the dovetail rings and thumb screw being machined as well or is this just for the actual mount itself While the mount shall be milled by a machinist, the shouldered thumbscrew and dovetail rings will be part of a package deal, hence one stop, one shop. Am trying my best on this one to get it all in one. |
| Sounds good, I wasnt trying to come off negative trust me we all definitely appreciate the work your putting into this project, I was asking for myself out of curiosity because for the life of me I cant find those dam rings, I can find everything else but those rings its driving me crazy lol so hearing that its gonna be a package kit type deal makes me very happy |

New update from the funsmith: machinist is veryclose to determing the material he wants to use, will be of adequate strength to handle use & abuse for the mount. Additionally, the machinist is also looking into pricing for ANODIZING the produced mounts. I am LOVING the fact the funsmith is taking the project, as seriously as any of us would. We also discussed about if a Weaver dovetail ring set can be found with a close match to the old Tasco, which are not made anymore. Please note a maker's mark (WGSA lettering) will be on the mount bottom, to distinguish it from an original item. Only thing I am sad to proclaim is any MI resident who orders a mount, will need to pay the typical 6% sales tax of the state. Patience, my friends. Things are slowly taking an AWESOME shape. I wish this is as perfect as possible before it gets released to y'all. |

Visited funsmith again; machinist is still checking numbers & materials for mount. On a good note, funsmith and I spoke about 1" dovetail rings from Weaver. He has ones in mind securing with Allen keys; I felt it shall be acceotable, as: 1 - Folks can use electrical tape, as covers 2 - Screws can be tightened more firmly, without buggering up slotted screw heads Only thing to disappiont me is shipping/tracking costs for the package. Uncle Sugar wants $13.65 for priority mail, but that will include tracking, which I am certain folks want to have. Das ist alles für jetzt. |

I stopped by to check out a thread about carry handle optic mounts mentioned over in GD, but this thread interested me. I still didn’t find the carry handle mount thread, but if I remember correctly I have a few in storage. Anyway, to this thread. Is the mount you’re talking about what is in this photo attached to the Single Point? Did anyone ever come up with a closer reproduction of the straps? The gap in the carry handle isn’t the dovetail. The Son Tay mount for the Singlepoint occluded eye optic used a dovetail groove (same as .22 receiver cuts for scope rings) and Tasco 722 1” rings. The strap version you reference is a commercial version from a much later date and not period correct for the Son Tay Raider clone.  Image from Vickers book |
