I just finished my build with a 16" 1:7 barrel and now I need to find a good source that you all use for M855 ammo.  I am using the M855 load as the initial round to zero and use as a basic shooting round, then I will use heavier rounds later on.  I am using this rifle to maintain my proficiency with the M4, so since I am a Marine I need to make sure I am using something that is pretty close to how it will respond in the field.  Can anyone guide me to somewhere that they know to be a reputable dealer for 5.56 M855 ammo?  Is the SS109 stuff the same as M855?  I see a lot of websites selling the M855PD ammo, but I hear not to use it as it is unreliable and sometimes unsafe, as well as it is "training only".  I will be needed about a thousand rounds, any help is appreciated.  I have looked around the ammo section, but no one mentions who is a good dealer.  I am also looking for something matching the Mk262 Mod1 at some point, and I read the post on that, so does anyone know where to get the second run ammo of that as well?  I appreciate the help.

Here you go Marine. Prices listed are for CC purchases they are cheaper if you use Certified Funds.

Well, you can try the Radway Green from Wideners or AIM Surplus.  Radway is the heavier grain bullet.  It may not work in your rifle, though it should.

Yes, the SS109 is the bullet type that M855 uses.

voodoochild- that ammo is new GI ammo, correct?  So it is the same exact stuff I would fire on the range or out in Iraq, correct?  Does anyone else have any sources so I can constantly have someone to buy from?  Is the radway stuff any good?  So if I want to stay within these GI specs, anything that says SS109 62 grain is ok?  What about the Lake City stuff?  I guess I just need to know if this is the best bet for what I need.  When I start using heavier stuff for different firing, I will use either TAP rounds or Black Hills stuff, but for now, I need a decent mil-spec 62 grain round that I can use.  Is this radway green 63 grain stuff pretty good?  1 grain difference wont matter too much if it is a decent load and the same bullet.  Thanks a bunch.

Yes that is new GI Ammo. Radway Green is good stuff as well. Lake City is pretty good as well.

So basically either the radway or the stuff you told me about is going to be a pretty damn good shot then.  You think the difference in the 62 grain to the 63 grain will be too huge?  Also, what is this about the M855PD ammo?  Is that really training only or is it ok to fire with a purpose if I need to?  I think I will buy 1800 rds of the stuff from adco and 720 rds of the radway stuff.  Should I consider adco to be the best place to buy M855 and weideners the best place to buy radway?  Anyone have somewhere to buy the Lake City SS109 stuff?

I would buy from either AIM or Wideners, but AIM gets my business first.  Not really and difference between the 62 and 63 grain bullets

The 855PD is okay, but don't use it for Self Defense...and expect to inspect every round before loading/shooting.

Ok, sounds good then.  Why does AIM get your business first?  Tomorrow I will buy 1800 from Adco and 720 from Weideners.  Why does Weideners call it 63 grain and AIM call it 62 grain?  Is it different?  I need the stuff for possible self defense loads until I go with the Hornady stuff, so I am not getting any PD stuff.  Anyone have any recommendations for Lake City stuff or somewhere that has M855 is amounts less than 1800 rounds?  I appreciate it, you are all good Americans!hippie.gif

I can't believe I am the first to say this, or did I miss something?

Radway 223 is GREAT ammo...except.  Doesn't function all guns, especially shorties after they get slightly dirty, (I'm talking 200 ~ 300 rounds).  If yours functions with RG...it is accurate.

Yeah,  I already looked at that twice and the majority of companies that are mentioned here are not even on there.  The only company that is has out of date info, so yes, you did miss something, but it's alright, good intentions.

Anyway, why wouldn't the RG ammo function out of a 1:7 16" barrel?

Just because I have purchased a bunch of ammo from them, and haven't had a single problem.  Nothing at all against Wideners, they are good too, but AIM has great customer support.

It may not function in your weapon because the brits use a different powder, so the pressure is different than american ammo.  It is cleared for use in US M4's, but not M16's.  Having said that though, it functions fine in some weapons, and won't cycle others.
If it works in your M4gery, it is well worth it.

Use the ADCO stuff for SD, at least until you figure out if the RG works in your gun.
