I was given an sp1 stripped upper––-no forward assist ,regular sight
,great condition, Colt large pivot
I bolted her together with assorted new and used parts as
A shooter.   My question–––––– is that Colt proofed CM SP1
Stripped upper being. "wasted"  as a tractor/pIckup short rifle?
Is it pertinent to Retro ?
Thank you

SP1 uppers are less desirable than milspec ones due to the need of a bushing but i'd have not problem using one on a truck gun or .22 conversion.  It is pertinent to retro but they are fairly common so build what you want and be happy with it.  We won't drag you over the coals for it

WASTED?  No way.  It is fulfilling it's inteded purpose as part of the AR15 weapons family.  "Slick sides" make great little lightweight carbines.  My carbine had an SP1 upper on it, until I needed the slickside for my 602 build.  Now it has an M16A1 upper.  Enjoy.

All my retros have been slicksides except for a 603, and that's because I found an H&R. I rarely play with my flattops.

If you're not sure about using it, it'll grow on you, if you're worried about it going to waste, it's not. You're using it aren't you?

Here's my son's "Frankengun" using an SP1 upper:

It was built out of "spare" parts.

Hey, The price is right! Build what you will with it. We don't often bust on anyone, and even then it is all in good fun. I think

What ever you build, keep it light & nimble. We like'em thin & sexy....well.... most of us do.

I thought about building a 606 clone, but my son needed parts to finish his AR and I had given his Cricket .22 to his sister.
I had to help him finish it right away.
He loves the unmatched look.
He tells everyone who sees it that HE built it, which he did.

You've done retro pretty good.

Yes that was fun.  But now I see I need a
Straight ring to hold on the handguards,
The lower frame is wrong ––need one.....
LOL.  This is spare parts tractor rifle––-
I can see the attraction for the retro stuff
This is practical though  handy, durable, light,
Accurate, no batteries
Cool   Hey that was the idea from the beginning Mr Stoner
thanks again

And a very useful one it is at that.  Nicely done.

Let he among us who has not built one or several spare parts tractor rifles, cast the first stone, at his own head.

Does anyone still make the straight ring
That holds on the handguards
Wish I'd have asked before hand
Thanks

I don't know if anyone makes them, harder to find from online vendors now too. Sarco, Delton are out. Numrich may have them - "Handguard Slip Ring, 1.87 Diameter"

But I would call to be sure.
