I have 2 Bushmasters complete rifles purchased new 1 yr ago. 223,5.56 . A 16in and a 14.5 with a izzy muzzle brake.     I want a spare upper,I am going to go with a 20 in BCM.My question is,can I drop a 20 in upper in a lower that was used for a 16 in or 14.5 upper.?  Do I have to get a new buffer and spring to work with the 20 in upper?  On A side note Both my Bushmasters have worked flawlessly no misfires,no fail to cycle etc.I have proved them both, plenty of rounds through both. I would like to clear some of the things that are said about Bushmasters. Both my carrier keys are staked properly not real deep but enough, and both weapons came with  M-4 FEED RAMPS .I do however would like a 20 in spare and BCM CATCH'S my interest. Thanks for answering my questions in advance.

Buffers and springs are specific to the buffer tube (receiver extension) and have nothing to do with the upper length. A carbine length buffer tube is shorter than a rifle tube, hence the need for a different buffer and spring.

You should be able to run a 20" on a carbine buffer.  I've done it before and seen it done.  As always it's best to check your specific case to make sure it's reliable before you depend on it.

Thanks for the reply,if I do have a problem cycling, would just a new buffer eliminate cycling issues.Of course I will have a new BCG.
