Does anyone have any experience with the spikes Dynacomp? I'm nearing the end of my semi lightweight build and I'm needing to accomplish 2 things with a muzzle device. First I want it to be a soft shooter with low muzzle climb and second the muzzle end feels a little light so I want a tiny bit of weight on the end to balance the rifle better. The Spikes seems like it would do both. Any other suggestions as the $80 price tag is killing me when I've always used A2 birdcages in the past.

The vg6 epsilon has a little weight and mitigates recoil very very well as well as flash.  It can be had for around 55-65 dollars

That is very interesting, I hadn't seen it and i lioe the price point. Thanks

Another question for those who are more familiar with the comps, is this going to make a 16 inch gun just louder or obnoxiously loud?

Some brakes are obnoxious and some are just a bit louder. All brakes will be louder over a flash hides though. The dynacomp, cmt z flash comp, epsilon aren't that bad for being a brake/comp. Most of the obnoxious ones are going to be your 3 port brakes or brakes that have very large ports. Granite ridge has the vg6 epsilon for 68.00 but has free shipping then a extra 15% off on it right now it seems, fwiw.

I had a Dynacomp on my LR308.  It worked, but I really don't have anything to compare it to.

I have the dynacomp extreme on my 14.5" spikes upper.
It is similar to the regular dynacomp, but a little longer to make the barrel 16"
It is definitely louder than an a2 fh, but not nearly as bad as some other comps/brakes out there.
I also have a vg6 epsillon pinned and welded on another 14.5" build. Great brake as well. It is heavier than the spikes and IMO, more effective at reducing recoil.
The spikes is a comp and the epsillon more of a brake. Brakes are usually louder.
I am really loving the Lantac Dragon, but it is louder than either of the aforementioned.
The most effective brake I have is the PA M4-72 severe duty. It is extremely loud and blows the gasses back toward the shooter, but it literally pulls the rifle forward as you shoot.

Seriously, the M4-72 is bad ass.  The muzzle doesn't even move when firing from the standing and combined with an adjustable gas block it feels like shooting a noisy .22.  I would disagree with "extremely" loud, though I haven't shot it indoors.  The compensating gasses blowing back towards you is what was more noticeable to me.  In a prone slow fire, you'll feel a hot pressure wave pushing on you with each trigger squeeze.  Reminds me a lot of the gas from a Barrett Model 95.

Another suggestion if you're trying to keep cheap on the brake would be the Strike Industries J Comp V2.

Not so much as I'm looking to be cheap, but $80 and $90 for muzzle devices just seems crazy. And I'm not really looking for a full on brake, more of a mix. I did find the PWS Mod 2 Triad that looks interesting though and is right around $50.

I'm just slightly concerned with the light weight muzzle end of this rifle and it may give me more muzzle rise than my other rifles and looking for some assistance in keeping the muzzle down.

Put close to 15k rounds through a Dynacomp before I sold the rifle it was on.

You won't notice a weight difference from an A2. It won't reduce recoil as much as, or shoot quite as flat as, a full brake, but it also is not nearly as concussive or obnoxious. It also does not kick up as much dust/grass or burn stuff.

I thought it was a great general use muzzle device very comparable to a battlecomp or warcomp (warcomp is a little more directional) and pretty good for the price.

Spikes must also be meloniting them as mine was on a 5.45 rifle, saw all corrosive ammunition, and was never cleaned, but did not rust or pit. It was resistant to external scratches and finish wear, but was starting to wear internally after 15k rounds of rapid fire 5.45.

The right powder helps a comp run better too.

I dont know if you reload or not.

I have been shooting accurate 2230 and varget.

When i load a light bullet with accurate 2230 the comp keeps the muzzle down much more so than the same bullet with Varget.

It made me realize that i need to use accurate for run and gun matches.

I don't reload yet, I plan on it in the future.

I managed to pick up a temporary place holder just to finish the build until I order the dynacomp. I found a strike j comp V2 for $35 and thought it would work until I get my order together. I got to function check my rifle though and found my new build to working great so it will do for now.
Also, I've not shot a comp much but did notice the gun was very light recoiling and didn't notice any muzzle rise with the strike so I going to test it out some more and try an extra  A2 birdcage I have  to compare it to.

I've heard good things about the jcomp.
Great budget option.

If and when you do start reloading, H335 powder ( which I use a lot of ) makes some pretty wicked fireballs in my dynacomp. More noticeable than my other comps/brakes.
Something to keep in mind if you are reloading shtf ammo with a dynacomp.
Try to find a lower flash powder.

Ok, so I tried the Strike J Comp V2, it was good at keeping the muzzle down and wasn't to bad on report volume, I will say the thing is a cheese grater. It tore the felt inside my safe up and it is long. One other thing if you buy one go ahead and get a better crush washer as the one it comes with is extremely soft. I just couldn't stand it so I picked up the VG6 like the poster above suggested and it is awesome. Here it is with the J Comp still installed.
