What do you guys think of these Spikes Tactical lowers? I really like the colored in select fire markings and the price seems to be right. How's the fit and finish on these? Here's a link: http://spikestactical.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=52 |

I just purchased one a couple days ago at a gunshow. The excellent finish and markings are what caught my eye (it was an impulse purchase). While I haven't built on it yet, all I can really say about it is that magazines insert perfectly, as well as my Colt A2 pistol grip. There are a couple quite minor surface imperfections on the right hand side (casting marks?), and the finish inside the mag well isn't 100%. The finish is very dark, so I intend to get their upper to ensure that both match. Gunshow cost was $145, with a free P-Mag thrown in. |
Thats 100% correct except LMT doesnt machine his lowers. And they never have. Heres alittle Spike's Lower Info, and the only reason i know this is b/c we have been friends for 5-6 years. LAR did his old lowers. He is still selling quite a few of those and some of them are even bullet marked. Not to many people know this but ASI "who also ASI does the lowers for Armalite" makes his New bullet marked lowers, which the fit and finish is TOP NOTCH. On the New lowers There isnt a Roll mark, Its actually machined on an end mill much like the Sabre lowers are. So the lettering and Spider logo is deep and crisp. The anodizing is Dark Black. I put one side by side with my Colt 6721 and Spike's lower had way better fit and finish. no casting marks inside the trigger guard, or on front of the magwell. It truely is a top quality forged lower. Ive also put about 15 of them together all the machining was right on the Money, everything fit and functioned perfectly. |
Chris's 6.8? Did I put it together? Do i know you? I cant wait to get all the parts so i can build the dedicated 22lr, Im going to run my Gemtech Trinity on it for now, then ill probably get a Stainless Steel Quest. |
Dammit!!!! Your right!!! LAR--NOT--LMT I always get that mixed up!!!!! ![]() But I think LMT is making the tubes for his 40mm HAVOC that he is making for a Govt. contract. Either way… great machining!!!! Great guy!!! And your right about the newer lowers… The milled in serial numbers, logos and other markings are 100% nicer than the roll marked lowers!!! +100 for SPIKES!!! |
15 and he still loves them enough to buy more, sounds like a winner to me i plan on picking up one soon with an upper, can't beat their engravings for $5 either. |
| Someone just posted this thread today. It seems to be for their stripped lowers only. |
Maybe by other dealers or retailers but Spike only does gun shows in the state of Florida at this time. Although he is growing rapidly, hes becoming known state wide and in a few other countrys as well. He sold a bunch of 22lr Uppers to Japan and he is dealing with Spain as well. You can always order online and have it shipped to your local FFL. |
| Thanks guys for all your great feedback! You all confirmed for me that I made the right decision in ordering a Spike's lower. Their customer service is top-notch and Angela was very pleasant to deal with. BTW: I ordered a Del-Ton kit to go with this lower, am I going to have an issue with the color match? |
I would think it would be "close enough" maybe even perfect. |
| Hi everyone. After lurking on these forums for awhile I final made myself an account, especially since I'm thinking about getting/building my first rifle. I'm looking to make an AR with a dedicated .22lr upper, probably from spike's and build up the lower from a Spike's stripped one (as you can see, I've taken a liking to Spike's products, even though I've never seen one in person!) My question is, how do their products stack up to the "big names"(this might be wrong) that I seem to hear all the time like LaRue and Rock River, S&W and the sort? Thanks in advanced! |
| ahh ic ic, I suppose I'm trying to ask something along the lines of a company profile...Sorry for being new to the whole AR scene, but does Spike's produce on a smaller scale, or more custom scale than others? I don't mind either way, I'm going to order from them soon, I'm just curious |

Here is one of the engraving options with a Spike's infidel tshirt in the background. http://photos-h.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v196/128/28/9418292/n9418292_36987919_5255.jpg |
