I have a Spikes Tactical lower that has been sitting in the safe, until today, when I tried to swap it with the PSA blemished lower I have on my 6.8 SPC. I figured it would be higher-quality and better for that particulare gun and, since I was working on a beater gun, the PSA would be better suited for that purpose. Anyway, I went to swap out triggers and the RRA NM 2-stage I attempted to install into the Spikes would not go past the first stage unless I really squeezed it hard (even then it only dropped the hammer half the time, or so). I thought maybe I was doing something wrong so I took it out and re-installed it but had the same problem, it just would not engage the 2nd stage and drop the hammer. I put it back in the PSA lower and it works perfect. I put the PSA single-stage into the Spikes and it, too works perfectly. The 2-stage just doesn't want to work in the Spikes lower! Is there some sort of tolerance that is off to cause this? I have installed a dozen or so triggers, and never seen this particular problem. Guess I will just have to run the Spikes on my beater gun but I hate to do it since it is, otherwise, a very nice lower and I like to keep my hunting-caliber AR's in nice condition.

I think youre going to need to cut the Spikes up with a band saw.

Is the rear of the trigger hitting the selector maybe? Can you see anything binding that might be causing it?

Very odd. I would contact Spike's and/or RR. I have two Spike's lowers with the same trigger... No issues at all. One is about 2 years old.. Other is less than 6 months. Couldn't be more pleased with the setup too.

nothing is perfect, hence you need to contact Spike's and get a replacement.

As said above I'm sure spikes will get you taken care of. They always do

Did you swap the safety selector also? Try that if you haven't already.
I've seen a few RRA 2-stage triggers that needed to be relieved slightly at the top rear, the engagement at the safety selector was too heavy for it to pull far enough to release the hammer.

I thought about it for a second!

The trigger is hitting the selector, that is the issue. I don't think the lower was machined quite enough.

That is interesting, I was wondering about that...

Yes, I swapped selectors this morning and the issue is still the same. I will take the lower back to where I bought it, they are pretty good to deal with. Thanks, everyone, for the info. I had just never seen this before and was curious if anyone else had.

I'd probably contact Spikes first before making a post.

I have had nothing but trouble with RR 2 stage triggers. Some receivers they work and others, not. I don't use them any more. Buy another brand and toss the RR in the trash.

You know what must be done...

All kidding aside. If it is a problem with the lower, Spikes will get you squared away.

We can take a look at it for you.

My guess would be it's the RAA T/G and/or the safety selector may not be in spec...Spikes lowers are very rarely are out of spec...

Good Luck.

Don' bother in my opinion... I had the exact same problem I think.... I had a spikes with a NM and the pins were hard to get in.
The for example the KNS National Match RRA pins are DIA .1555  -  Look here at the pull down window for sizes and read the text.

So I believe NM pins are .1555
Standard is .154 DIA.

I got mine in eventually in with a  spikes.. but it was awfully tight.
What im trying to say is... its the PINS not the lower I think.

Measure the pins ya?
Ive used .154 dia pins in a national match just fine also.
Function checked... everything worked great.

I just did swapped in a alg trigger and had to swap the safety with a different one I had. Same issue just a small clearance issue, a little figment of the top of the trigger would have worked to

Again.. 2 RRA NM 2 Stage Triggers.. 2 Spike's lowers.. Bought over a year apart.. No issues. Let's not bash either. The combination has and does work. I have fantastic results with mine. Let Spike's or RRA take a look. Both will be helpful.

Yes: A positional tolerance for a .154 DIA pin could possibly cause issues when using .1555 DIA NM pin.
No bashing.. everything is in spec for both company's.... but its an diametrical interference by definition in 2 locations.

For kicks.. swap your hammer pin only with a mil spec .154dia pin and do a function check.

Sorry, I went away for a while and didn't check this thread. I ended up trying my S3G trigger in the Spikes and it worked great, so I went with that configuration and left the RRA in the PSA lower. I think it might be something in the RRA trigger, there is a lot of creep in it and it is really sloppy. I haven't had time to dig into it, though. Thanks, for the suggestions, everyone, I apprecaite it.
