[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Spitfire prism

I am putting together an ar pistol for a truck gun (no loaded long guns in vehicles). I am looking for an optic where I don't need sights. Would the vortex spitfire fit this role? My other idea was a weaver 1-3 power scope. Thoughts?

Theoretically that's any optic. Sights are used as back ups in case your primary optic fails or is destroyed. Do you need/ want magnification or no?

I am looking for a 1x optic that doesn't solely rely on batteries. I see folding sights needed most for if the batteries die on the primary optic. I figure if I still have an etched reticle, that backup sights become less of a necessity.

I have 3X Spitfire on one of my M4 rifles and like it a lot. It has an etched reticle or illuminates in red or green. Very solid.

I have Spitfire 1X optics on all my rifles (AR15s and 10/22s) and love them. It was nice to not have to buy a mount since they come with one. I don't have any BUIS on my AR15s.

I am toying with the idea of also trying a Spitfire 3X but am waiting for a sale on them.

I had a Spitfire 3x and I can vouch for their construction. They are built like a tank. Theoretically, you could get away with using a Spitfire sans BUIS since it has an etched reticle and will still be serviceable should the battery die. I will say it is much better with reticle lit up though. I would be comfortable putting one on a truck gun without a backup.

The etched reticle is nice to have if the battery dies.

I have the 1x Spitfire on a 300BLK pistol build. No BUIS. Works quite well in that role for me.
