| While shooting some new Wolf ammo today, I had a round split lengthwise while still in the gun, after it fired of course. I can pull the bolt back about 1 inch, and I can see two splits in the casing. I cannot get the bolt back any further, and obviously, I cannot get the broken case to eject. How do I get this shell out without forcing something or screwing something up? Please help, and thanks in advance. |
| Take the upper off of the lower and place it in a padded bench vise. You will have to try and pull back the carrier with some force in order to get out the case. Or, you could simply take it to a gunsmith who is familiar with AR's and let them get it out. Make sure you closely inspect the rifle afterwards so as to detect any damage it may have suffered. Once you get it out, ditch that ammo. |

I would simply get a cleaning rod and push it down the barrel b/c the casing is spent you won't be risking anything and a few light taps should knock it out. EDITED TO ADD: pull the bolt back while you use the rod to tap the casing loose. Jerad I improvised this just last week using the antenna off my truck ![]() |
