I am looking into getting a bolt conversion kit for simunition for a couple of ARs and was asked if my AR has a sporter block.  What is a sporter block and how do I know if I have one?

Thanks

That is a Colt thing to keep you from converting a Colt into FA.
If you are shooting a Bushy, just say "No."

First, do you have a Colt?  While I'm no authority on Colts, I'd assume the question refers to a "sear block" which IIRC is only found on Colt Sporters.

At one time Colt was pinning a block into the lower receiver to disallow the addition of a drop in auto sear (DIAS) or a Lightning Link (LL).  This can be seen by a spare pin in the lower receiver above the safety selector. (And at first glance appears to be a FA sear pin until one realizes it's over-sized)  IIRC, they did away w/ the pinned in block and just have the lower receiver shelf built up, which prevents the use of either a LL or DIAS.

Thanks for the reply.  I have a bushmaster so not a problem.  The other gun we would use it in is a colt so I guess we will buy one and see how it goes.  It is an M4 so I would think it would be fine.
