Ive seen a couple of spotting scope stands that clamp to the table and has a bar that sticks straight up and the spotting scope clamps on the bar. Anyone know a website that has very inexpensive stands, the mini tripod mine came with is always in the way.

Hello everyone,

Here’s a possibility.   In the wood working section of most stores they have the
squeeze handle type wood clamps, in 12-inch, 18-inch, and so forth.

With a little ingenuity I’m sure you can figure a way to mount the spotting scope
to it.    Maybe just drill a hole in it (same diameter as scope mounting hole),   the
hardware store will have a wing nut (or some kind of screw, correct thread type)
and washer.
(There's nothing that says the scope has to set right side up)
If you have an angled eyepiece all the better, the you don't have to crank your
head around to see.

The clamp would be:
Easy to use.  Quick set up.
Clamps to any table edge.
Jaws are padded, so won’t mar surfaces.
You have a clamp that is useful for other things.
Can be modified anyway, so you’re not out of a lot of money, if something goes wrong.

Good Luck, hope this is helpful.

I will look into something like that, only found a few so far all too expensive $150 and above, was thinking about making one with a C clamp and weld a rod on it and some type of adjustible mount the scope connects to.

Using the quick-clamp is pretty damn ingenious.  Most models I have seen and used have a hole in the end with a cross pin through it to prevent the head from just falling off.  Could be very interesting to work with....and I just happen to know a guy that has a spotting scope!

I'll report back soon.

I found it!

My dad's into recording his atv trips and uses these all over his atv to hold cameras and other stuff.

They lock up tight and are dirt cheap compared to "professional" stands.

I'll have to buy a longer/larger quick clamp, but my early experiments look extremely promising.

swivel bar clamp thing.
