Hope I'm asking this in the right place,
Ive just joined a club with a 300 and 500 yard range so my next need to get item is a spotting scope that will save a lot of leg work. Does anyone have any suggestion on what power to get? Shooting 223 and 308 not that it makes much difference past 50' with my eyes. |

MAYBE at 300 with perfectly still air and .308. Maybe. The spotting scopes used for those ranges are (1) used to view the mirage and (2) used to see the score marking disk and spotter on a pulled and marked target, not bullet holes. |

Recommend a KONUS Konuspot 20-60x80mm spotting scope. Many high power shooters use the scope, and it's very nice (and found for $200). Not quite as good as a Kowa, but IMO a better value. You can see 223/308 holes at 300Y under VERY good light conditions and still air. You can see bullet mirages/trails w/ this scope too which will help you get on paper when shooting out past 300Y; no way you can see bullet holes though with any sort of conventional scope past 300Y... |
