I tried to search using site tool and google, but have only found references to installing the safety selector before the trigger.  I am in the process of sending out my trigger group to have the work done to it which will complete my first build (pics to follow).

I purchased a Magpul MAID grip, so my question is.  I am GTG to install the grip and the selector now, or should I wait until I receive the components back to insure proper fit and all?  Will I need the selector to be able to free rotate (with out detent) or can I just finish the assembly and drop the trigger and hammer in?

Thanks

With the Springfield trigger job you sometime need to install the hammer/trigger at the same time as the selector.

You may need to file a little material off of that tab that he welded on the bottom of the trigger under the selector.

File a little and try it… if it needs more do it again until it fits.

Just take it slow and don’t file too much…

I have to do this on 50% of the triggers that I get back from him…

Its not a defect, just a little fitting needed sometimes to fit “your” lower perfectly.

I just went through this and made the mistake of filing the tab to fit under selector before installing the hammer

. My advise is to put in the trigger and the hammer. put the hammer into the cocked position, this will fully seat the trigger a little lower. This should give you the clearance to install the selector. I didnt install the hammer so my trigger wasnt fully seated but I mistakenly removed metal before installing the hammer, now I have too much creep. He will add more metal to the tab again for $5

Actually DirtyDrew is correct… install both the hammer and trigger and try it with the hammer cocked before you file, but chances are 50/50 you will still have to remove some material.

And I’m only talking a tiny bit of filing… use a small diamond file or even a sharpening stone… don’t take a mill file to it or anything like that.
