| I noticed ARs don't come with stacking swivels. Did the military do away with them all together or do manufacturers just leave them off civilian rifles? I used to have one on my M16A2. |
From what I recall, forward loop on the sling is set to hand width, Barrels of 2 other rifles are inserted into the loop from the left and right. Set the butts on the ground - instant M16A1 pyramid. |
I think that's it. |
The ones we used in Basic Training sure did. There were two swivels on the front site base. One for the sling, and another for stacking. It looked like a sling swivel with a break in it. |

This is correct in a nut shell. It gets more complex than this but this is how its done. Im a Drill Sergeant, and I hate "Stack Arms" Woops messed up the Quote thing. You beat me to the link QUIB. |
..and there you have it! |
You sure about that?

I've never seen or heard of this and I don't know how it would be done. The only other way to put a stacking swivel on would be to mount it on the bayonet lug, and that would render the lug useless. |
The only time I ever used it or saw it used was as part of color guard and honor guard tests. |
We did it in Basic Training a couple of times, that's where I learned it. I was only in 1 Color Guard competition (in AIT during a Bn Soldier Skills tournament), but I don't recall using it there. |
We did it as prep for casing the colors IIRC and as part of the knowledge test. |
