I'm sure this has been asked before but I did a quick search and came up blank.

I'm planning on building a 24in Varmint/Target and a 20in HB. I think I want both
fluted for wieght etc. But need to know the real world differences between the two.

1. Accuracy ( is there a difference)
2. Barrel life (is there a difference )
3. Is there a difference in the barrel break in ?

They must sound pretty stupid but I'm new to AR's .....just know bolts and never
got into S/S for any of them.

Thanks

Terry

1) SS is considered more accurate- but not by much 1/8th moa... if that, in most cases
2) SS<Chrome moly< Chrome lined in barrel lifen (chrome lined is highest)

3) "barrel break in" is, most often, a waste of barrel life... why burn 10% of your barrel's life "breaking it in"... the whole idea is, unless you get a bad rifling job, ridiculous...

Go to ADCO's site in the industry forum and check out the SS barrel test thread- very informative.

Thanks I'll do that. I really appreciate the info on where to look. I get lost in this site some times.

i've shot in competition for most of my life from shooting muzzle loaders to smallbore and air rifle in college to DCM in highschool. a stainless barrel will hold up longer and be far easier to clean than a standard barrel. powder residue and bullet copper also cleans up a lot easier in a stailness. this comes from thousands for cleanings and god knows how many patches ran through barrels.
hopes it makes your decision easier.
