I'm going to be picking up a barrel for my next build and was wondering if a stainless barrel has any advantages over a standard chrome-lined barrel or the other way around.  I just put a WOA SS on my last one, but havn't been able to tell a difference yet.  Weight?  Accuracy?  Lifespan?  Cleaning?

Thanks.

Oh yea . . . you can't just buy the barrels

The barrel's profile determines the weight more than stainless versus chrome lined steel.  A good stainless barrel will generally be more accrate than a chrome lined barrel, because it's difficult to maintain consistent plating thickness over the bore's entire surface.  I think chrome is a little easier to clean and will probably last a little longer.  FWIW I own one stainless and a bunch of chrome lined barrels and don't notice a huge difference in the effort required to get them clean.  I honestly don't think a typical AR owner will shoot out a barrel, either . . .

For simplicity go with chrome, easier to clean & you can also get a lot more shots down the barrel before you start losing accuracy & need to clean it. I have several of each with stainless I notice losing accuracy with as little as ten rds.,Chrome lined it would take hundreds before you notice a loss in accuracy.
