I have been wanting an AR forever but the budget was just never there. By chance I won one at a DU dinner so now I own a DPMS AR.

I am not at home so I don't have the exact model but it came looking just like this one:

Without a rear sight that is kind of #1 on my purchase list. Is a carry handle the best option or is a rear flip up sight a better or equivalent option? Since it has the fixed front sight what would you do for a rear sight?

Definitely get the flip up rear sight, or a fixed rear sight.  The carry handle isn't any good if you decide down the road to add an optic like an Aimpoint or Eotech.   With the fixed rear sight, they are less expensive and always up which is a good thing.  The fold down sights are great too, but it is one more thing you have to flip up all the time.

For budget sake, I recommend a Daniel Defense fixed rear sight, or an LMT rear sight.   Both are top quality.   If you want a flip up sight, get a Midwest Industries or a Troy rear flip up.  Both are excellent.

If you need to keep it under $60, then try a Magpul MBUS rear sight.

But I would shop around and get a metal rear sight like the MI, LMT, DD, or Troy.

Then in the future if you add an optic, you won't have to toss your rear sight like you would with a carry handle.

So with the fixed front sight a fixed rear or a flip up is going to be tall enough to line up with that front sight? That is the only reason that I was considering a carry handle was because I was not sure of the other types would allow to you line the sights up.

Yes, all the standard height rear sights line up perfectly with the stock triangle A2 style fixed front sight.  I have the same front sight as you on half of my ARs, and I have rear sights from LMT, MI, Troy, and ARMS.  All line up 100%.   Just don't buy the "micro sights" that sit lower, or any sight for a H&K 416 because they are lower as well.  But any standard AR-15 height (flip up or fixed) is the exact same height as a fixed front sight.
