Where can I get new foam inserts for my double rifle case which holds my AR15's? Thank you, Phessor |

I looked at the replacement foam packages from Starlight. They cost $40, I think, and I only paid $60 for the case! Now, I know that's because I got a supre deal, but it still makes it hard for me to come up with the cash. I plan to take the foam inserts to the local upholsterer (seat cover guy) and have him order some sheets of appropriate material for me. I'll post the cost when I find out. Does anyone have any experience or informed opinion concerning the closed-cell foam option from Starlight. It certainly sounds like an improvement over the open-cell foam, but I'm not sure if it's necessary for normal use. Is it worth the extra cost? |
| I have 6 Starlight rifle cases and 2 pelicans. Here's the scoop. If it is a rifle that you will not be transporting much or is not heavy with losts of accessories; the rgular foam will work pretty sufficiently for most applications. If yo are gonna carry heavy guns (Barrett .50BMG, tricked out ARs with ninga stuff) or have a lot of cutouts for equipment, or are using in a moist environment, the more pricey, better foam is THE way to go. It is more rigid, supportive and repels moisture better. It costs a bunch, but is worth it. Do a web search for foam; there are several companies that sell replacement foam; I even found some on EBAY. Brack at Starlight is a great guy to work with and can set you up with either selectuion of foam, but it may be more expensive than getting it from another source. Also, Brack has the plastic cutouts that fit the Barrett and may be able to custom extrude other applications |
I did check with Starlight and I feel the same way about this as bismark77. |

Here's a budget solution. If you have a local computer manufacturer, or a manufacturer that uses PC boards in their production, they have more foam than they can get rid of. We have a local electronics manufacturer and they give away large pieces of heavy foam from their PC board shipments. I use their foam for gun cases, home made scope cases, and cases for my test dials and indicators for my metalworking machines. |
Thanks BigBore, I ordered some more foam inserts for my new rifles. |
