ETA: Before I built my PVS-14, I had a PVS-2 I picked up on eGay for ~$200. I used the AA battery converter, which was around $20. You can find PVS-2's from dealers starting about $500, or try to get lucky on eGay for less. You may have better luck posting on the Night Vision Forum. |

I wouldn't pay more than 300, they are huge, off to one side of the rifle and HEAVY. |

If you want a PVS-2 for nostalgia value that is cool, but yeah, they are stupid heavy and offset mount to the left which makes the rifle balance horribly.
If you want a PVS-4, let me know, I have one I can part with. I've considered abusing the CC to get a PVS-2 or -4 from the linked vendor.....is the PVS-4 really worth the more than 2X price of a PVS-2? |

The PVS-2 is a bit like looking through a green peephole in your front door - works, but fisheye and a small viewing area to align your eye with. The PVS-4 has a much flatter, larger image and the resolution and can also mount to a lot more weapons. |

Please tell me more as you have now caught my attention Feel free to use PM if you don't want to muddy the watters of the thread. TIA Quoted:
That's a judgement call, but it is quite a bit better and lighter. If you just want capability, gen 3 nods are waay better, and I assembled my PVS-14 for well under $1500... |

Here is the link to the pinned thread on the night vision forum that tells you how to assemble a PVS-14. I got most of my parts on eBay and the EE. The most expensive part is the image tube. I got that in a trade from an ARFCOM member for a couple of retro barreled uppers that I had lying around. It was a police turn-in. The few parts I needed to finish I got from ARFCOM vendor TNVC. Assembling a PVS-14 is easier than assembling an AR. PM me if you have any questions. |
