I was at a local shop today that had a very large number of aluminum 30 round mags for sale.  They ranged from very used to almost new.  Some were LEO marked, some had GI mag pulls made from para cord, tape, names written on them, etc.  One had a paracord mag pull, but was made of steel.  The only marks I could find on it was an 8 on the side.  It is not one of the cheapo steel mags  you see at every gun show. This mag is identical to a GI aluminum mag except for being steel.  Can anyone tell me what this mag might be?

Thank you for the information. It was just odd that it didnt' have any markings on it, not even on the floor plate.  Of course I haven't taken it apart yet, so it probaby says "Made in England" on the other side of the floor plate.  I don't know where these mags came from, but it seemed odd that this mag would be mixed in with what looked like used GI mags.

Could be some of those cheap junk Asian military mags though, English mags usually had some kind of marking having to do with SA-80 or England.

My English mags just had a sticker on the side that said England.  However they look identical to the ones from Singapore, witch also had a little sticker that said Singapore.
The English ones work great.  I never tried any from Singapore.

Some Singapore mags had the mag catch hole just out of alignment and needed to be filed to work correctly. Also the English mag springs were not as good as USGI mags. Just skip the steel stuff, why gamble when you know that USGI mags always work and are so damn cheap right now.

I just thought it was neat that it was a steel mag in with a batch of Gi mags.  I just wonder how it got in that batch of used mags.

Perhaps the same way the LEO marked magazines did, the shop owner just tossed it into the bin with the rest of 'em .......

They do?  Man, what dream world are you living in.  Cheap they are, at the moment. Reliable? Yes----right up to the point where they're worn out and become a piece of junk Oh, you can get a tool to reahape the feed lips, a new follower, new spring, etc,etc---and spend more than you paid for the damn thing in the first place.

Oh yeah., Don't forget the fancy paint to make 'em look pretty.

Really? I have some original 30rd Colt mags that are probably 35 years old that still work just fine. They are worn but they still function. Dont let the highspeed lowdrag guys fool you into buying a bunch of shit you dont need.
