Hello.

I just got a new AR-15 (PSA).

I've shot it twice now - about 200 rounds through it each time - and it seems that the trigger is little sticky when it's resetting. I make sure to clean and lube it well (Frog Lube after HOPPES); all parts appear in perfect working order.

By "sticky" I mean the trigger reset is not fast and smooth, it sometimes takes a half second until I hear that telltale 'click.'

Any thoughts?

Have you tried it without any froglube on the contact points of the disconnector and hammer?

Did you do a ammo-less, mag-less function check of the trigger reset?

If you shotgun the upper or take it off completely and reach down into the lower, does the disconnector rock fore and aft freely in the trigger slot?

Check the disconnect or spring for proper orientation. Also check for abnormal wear at the contact points of the sear. Might be an out of spec trigger control group, some debris caught up in the internals or just really dirty.

I have a lot of research to do now, with these replies.

N2N, I don't know what "shotgunning" is - is that removing the rear pin and popping the AR open like a breechloader?

I will also have to look up the disconnector, sear, and hammer. I haven't removed any of those parts from the lower, but gave them a good wipe-down with a HOPPES-soaked cotton swab, then a liberal coating of Frog Lube before and after last shooting.

Day 2 was definitely better than day 1, as well.

Is there a potential "break-in" period I should get through, or should I start to be concerned now?

Thanks

Yes, that's it exactly.

No that's not normal for a brand new out of the box weapon. If well made, free of sludge and debris and properly lubed, the trigger pull, disconnector function and reset should work correctly from pull one. It was true for the lower I built from parts and I would expect no less from a complete factory rifle. No factory new gun I ever bought (S&W, Sig, Taurus and Marlin) was anything worse than a bit gritty feeling and stiff at first. Never sticky like you describe.

Assuming it's under warranty, I personally would call Palmetto toot-sweet and see how they want to proceed. (I'd be wondering what else might be wrong and be wary putting a full magazine in an unfamiliar  rifle behaving that way... what other bad behavior it might exhibit.) Absent that, here's the basic guide that might help you get familiar with lower receiver parts and how they go together and function. (http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/) Fire control (trigger and hammer) are a little more than half way down the page.
