So we decided to bite the bullet and start the process for a dedicated "A1" upper forging tool.

This is a CAD model of it.

The PO is in, but I don't expect to have any finished forgings until later this summer.

Cool.  I think you will do well with it, especially in the long term.

Fantastic!

Put me first in line for the first 605 you make

[#4]
Looks great. I'll take a 605...oh and a 603 or two
5/16/2008 5:11:21 PM EDT
[#5]
I'll be getting one.  Need to replace the C7 upper on my 177E2 clone.

Mike, is there a chance you'll offer A1s in black or only gray?
5/16/2008 6:41:26 PM EDT
[#6]
Heck, right now I'd settle for a 601 lower...

Good to know, you'll be getting more of my funds. What will you be using for them, 6061 or 7075?

They will be 7075.

And I doubt we would sell enough A1 uppers in black to justify a run.

We still have some NDS-16A2 lowers in "Pre-ban" gray, and we only did about 20 of those............................

Put my name on a 605.

Hmmm, only 20 NDS-16A2 in pre-ban grey??
Maybe I need to add one to my next order.

I'm not going to build more guns......I'm not going to build more guns......I'm not going to build more guns......

Oh hell, I just might have to build more guns!!!!

Nice work Mike.

605?   im in for one.
5/16/2008 7:39:06 PM EDT

Yeah, we'll do some 605 uppers.

I am sure I will buy one. Thanks a lot.  Ramen for a month!

Excellent! I cannot wait for these to be available.

I want a 601

Thank You

It would be cool if somebody could buy them without the forward assist machined out so a 605 could be made.

Absolutley GREAT !!!    Do some 601 Uppers
5/17/2008 2:27:57 AM EDT

Awesome, definitely see myself buying one of those uppers.

black and gray?

I expect to buy myself an upper and lower for myself for my birthday in August for my A1 build. I'm working full time again, so I'll be putting in an order for a lower soon. (FINALLY!) Thanks for listening to us Mike. I'd buy a grey A2 lower if I had an upper I thought it would look good with - I like the light grey pre-ban color. Be great for a 'retro' A2 build. (Ducks and runs from onslaught of thrown tomatoes...)

[#24]
Excellent!!!

[#25]
Awesome!  That means I don't have to cannibalize that minty upper I just got just for the receiver for my 653 build.  But that also means I need to buy a lower to make a XM16E1 out of the upper now.  Damn you guys!
5/17/2008 6:45:35 AM EDT
[#26]
Badass.  I was going to use a C7 type upper for a dedicated .22lr IDF style clone, but I think I will wait for this little gem.

You guys rock.

Have you considered adding 2-pos tubes and coated aluminum stocks to your catalog of offerings in the future?
5/17/2008 8:22:30 AM EDT
[#27]
This is excellent!

Hey Mike.  How bout a 3D rendering?

Side note, I know tooling isn't cheap, I wonder what happen to the old tooling that Colt and other forging companies used when they switched to the A2.  Did they destroy them or are they sitting on a shelf somewhere waiting to be resurrected?
5/17/2008 11:20:14 AM EDT
[#29]
will the rear sight markings be raiser or stamped?

That stuff is long gone.

Forge tools are only good for a couple of thousand parts, then they have to be weld repaired and re-machined.

After a couple thousand more parts, the dies are shit-canned.

Part of the cost is the maintenance and making of new dies. When the original one is worn out, them make another set for us.

When sales switch to a "new" model (A2) they probably shelved, and then scrapped the old design.

They will be raised, as that is correct for the model.

Alright looking foward for a 653 build.

"Ask and ye shall receive."  And when they are offered, we will purchase all that you have!  Much to the utter dismay of our already bewildered wives, girlfriends, and significant others.  Thank you Mike.

I definitely felt something move down there...

Is there a price point set for these when they become available?  Need to start saving pennies!
