Just putting together my first build and am wondering which stock you all prefer.  Was originally looking at the CTR, but have also heard the imod/emod is nice.  Any opinions on either?  Also, can the Vltor work on a regular mil spec buffer tube, or do I need to order everything from Vltor?

I like both of your options I have the two on my current two setups

Any mil-spec stock will fit on any mil-spec buffer tube.  Any commercial stock will fit on a commercial buffer tube.  You just can't mix and match sizes (mil-spec vs commercial).

The MOE is more popular than the CTR mainly due to cost (looks the same yet is 1/2 the price).  I've got the MOE on my M&P 15-22 and it is comfortable.  The B5 Sopmod stock is also a good value due to being very simialr to the LMT Sopmod which is double the cost.  I have the original Vltor Modstock on my carbine and I like it.  I'd prefer the E-mod, but it isn't worth the price to upgrade to me.  If starting from scratch, I think that I would opt for the B5 Sopmod.

I have Magpuls only. 2 MOEs and 1 CTR. I like the Magpuls becasue they are smiple, clean looking, well built and do the job. I don't need the battery storage, cheek piece, etc. However, the STR is a fine looking stock. lol. I have the CTR on my 3 gun rig. The friction clamp takes out the woble. Otherwise the MOE is just fine. Any Magpul stock is better than a standard stock.

Great advice.  Thanks guys.  One other question.  I originally wanted the BCM stock hardware kit, but its sold out.  What about the Vltor buffer tube?  They call it a receiver extension.  Is this the same thing?  Will it work with a CTR stock?

OK, I think I've eliminated Vltor for my buffer tube list and have it narrowed down to BCM and LMT.  I think they both look really nice, and I want the BCM but it is out of stock everywhere.  I contacted BCM and they wont have any in until the end of the year.  I can buy the LMT right now.  Any opinions on either?  Ive heard the LMT has a coating on it to make the stock slide easily.

A buffer tube (reciever extension) is a buffer tube.  Don't get too caught up on the brand.  Just buy a mil-spec tube that you can find in stock.  It wouldn't surprise me to learn that there are only a few manufacturers of buffer tubes making OEM parts for all of the brand names (just like upper and lower receivers).
