So I'm now storing all my ammo in ammo cans with dessicdant (sp) anyways does it matter if it stored in its box or loose.  I mean if the seals are good on the ammo can does it really matter if I keep all the ammo boxed.

The reason I am asking is I believe you can get more ammo in loosely than in a box.

Opinions please.

Desiccant.  I had to look it up enough times that I've learned the darn spelling.  It's weird but that's how it's spelled.  And I use rice most of the time; cheap, biodegradable, and easily available.

Harder to count out of boxs. Stripper/bandela, the rest stay in box's in ammo cans.

And boil the rice when SHTF and you got a meal on the run or in your hide

I cast my vote for strippers & bandos. It's not only fun to do, but your ammo is always GTG if and when needed.

I use products from Sorbent Systems. I recently bought PackDry 1500 bags and their Microsieve 5 gram dessicant. I take the boxes of ammo and place them in the bag with a couple bags of dessicant and seal them. This basically makes one of those plastic battlepacks. I also tested one of the bags by dropping them shoulder height onto the floor with the corner of the cardboard ammo box hitting first. The bag was not punctured. I put the new battlepacks on cardboard in a lockable metal storage cabinet in my basement.

I have some 556/223 and 7.62x39 that was bought via mail order before the Internet.
89-90. I stored in standard GI ammo cans. It's all fine as the day I bought it. No issues.

I did not use any desiccant.

Just an FYI for most of those years the ammo home was in the very humid state of Fla.
 ..

My theory is if its stored in some kind of sealed container and kept away from direct contact with water or serious humidity it should last for many years.
