I bought my Polytac primarily because it was cheap a while back and I've been using if for a couple years now; here's a quick summary of my findings thus far.

Pros:
-Cost.  The light can be had for under $35 shipped.
-Uses relatively common CR123 batteries.
-Fits in common 1'' mounts.
-It works.   So far I all the Polytacs I own have kept on ticking even with use on rifles and shotguns.
-130 C4 LED output.   It's a nice white light with a good peripheral cone.
-Has o rings to seal out water on both the tail cap and lens cap.
-Lightweight.   Weighs 4.1oz with batteries.
-Comes in black, coyote, and bright yellow.

Cons:
-1 of the 3 I lights I have flickers slightly under recoil (can be seen at the beginning of the video below).   Is it a huge issue for SD/HD?  Maybe.  I really doubt I'd ever shoot in the dark with the light off in a HD/SD situation but for use with night vision devices it's a different story.
-It's not as bright as some lights on the market.

Here's a video with some shooting/testing, a night time comparison between a 104 lumen Maglite and a Surefire 6PX Tactical, followed by a discussion of the light:

I've got a polytac (LED) mounted on one of my rifles... I've also got the xenon bulb one on my gear.

Great lights!

Does anyone know if they make spare lamps for the lights & where to purchase them?

Have a polytac hp on my rifle. Great light.
Get the flicker under recoil as well, doesn't bother me.
Anyone know of a mod or replacement tailcap to go momentary only?
Not crazy about the clicky.

I had a Polytac, liked it until 2 weeks later the click on/off button went to shit. Have a surefire executive defender ever since for the last few years, it has been treating me good.

Did Streamlight replace it?

I brought the polytac back to the place of purchase since it was within the time period the store would take returns, told them what it was doing, they checked it out, ask if I wanted to exchange or return it. I choose to put the credit towards the surefire. I do like my TLR's from Streamlight, and they have lasted years, maybe I had a bad switch on my Polytac, either way I didn't want to deal with the same issue down the road. Besides the switch issue I had, its a great light, maybe give another one a try someday.

I have had a PolyTac on my rifle for a year now.  I am pleased with it.  It has an impressive throw for such a low price point.  I have not shot with it very much, but have used and abused it and my rifle a fair amount.  I am happy with it so far, especially for the price.

I assume that is an MOE handguard. What mount is that?

I love the Polytac. I bought 3 of them for $20 each.

One mounted to my AR, carry one and will mount the other to my shotgun. It looks like it can have trouble with heavy recoiling guns (12g shotguns) and can cause the spring to compress, but it's easy to fix. I don't imagine I'd leave it mounted for most range trips, just to be safe and make it last as long as possible.
