| Hi guys, another noob here asking redundent questions. I've looked through several pages and couldn't find the answers I was looking for so here's my list. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I used to own Colt competition and like the AR's. I want to hurry up and get a M4 before the AWB goes back into effect but am throughly confused on how many damn brands there are out there. If everyone would be so kind as to rank them for me it would help me out tremendously. I am really considering RRA tacticle entry but have never heard of them before. So the ones i have in question are Olympic Arms, RRA, DPMS and Bushmaster. I'm not a heavy shooter and only put about 500 rounds through my old competition so I'm wondering if there is a big quality difference for a casual to low user with all those brands. Also I am confused on the sight listings A-1 to A-4.. what's the difference??? Thanks for any responses :) |

The commerical AR manufacturers don't always strictly follow the military designations, generally A-1; fised carry handle, rear sight adjustable for windage only, probably fine for your purposes A-2:fixed carry handle, rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation, this is the more common rear sight now. A-3/A-4: removeable carry handle with same sight as A-2 Personally I'd say get the Bushmaster. If you are looking at the others make sure the barrel is chrome lined (an extra cost option with dpms and RRA, not available with Oly) and that the barrel is a true M-4 profile, some "M-4" barrels are actually thicker under the handguards, this makes it heavier but I guess they figure you won't realize that until you buy it. I know RRA used to do this, maybe they no longer do? Oly still has more complaints about quality and customer service here than any other manufacturer, despite some staunch defenders. |
| Thanks for the input fellas. I wasn't aware that the AWB would be gone for that long.. I assumed that it wasn't 'renewed' for the election to get votes. Has anyone bought any guns from 'Atlantic Firearms'? As i recall when a barrel has a 1 in 9 twist i think it's matched for 62 grain bullet.. is that true? Is there a 'better' ammo for the short barrel entry type rifles? I still love the looks of the RRA Entry Tactical detachable carry handle.. Thanks again guys. |
