I have a cast Essential Arms lower receiver and the right side trigger pin hole is slightly egged and the pin fits loose, is this something I can fix myself? |
Made hot. |

The KNS pins are might be worth a try, but their purpose is to prevent walking in or out - not to compensate for badly worn holes. I was just reading that in the military, elongated trigger/hammer pin holes are a very common problem after thousands of rounds, and the receivers are just scrapped (not considered repairable). Good luck! Oh - you might try calling Essential Arms to see if they will make you a special deal on a new forged lower - can't hurt to ask! |

I see where you live, so I understand the reason, I would have said just get a new receiver. But in your case maybe a Tig weld and then redrill the hole and refinish?... I like the essential arms cast receivers, and I sent a couple to your state...Hope this was not one of my old ones. |
Good point. I just thought the KNS pins might be able to correct the problem with the least expense involved. I've had some pins in a Bushmaster lower wallow out, and now the KNS pins are SOP. Best of luck!! |

I called Essential and they said that there new lowers are "Mod. J15F" and my old preban is a "Mod. J15", so if they destroyed my old receiver and put the sreial # on a new lower there may be some legal issues. The problem is that I live in CT which still has the AWban. He said if I could get my worn holes welded shut, that he could re-drill them for little to no cost. Does anyone have any idea who's able to plug up the holes? |

The KNS kit comes in three sizes .154 standard, .155 for worn and .170 with a tap bit to make the holes bigger for really worn lowers. Here's the link at Brownells: www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=13801&title=AR-15+HAMMER+%26+TRIGGER+PINS&s=32948#32948 |
Welding aluminum can be somewhat tricky, one thing you could do would be to enlarge the holes and use a large pin Colt trigger group, that's another option to consider. |

I like the KNS, but their standard oversized pins only come in .155, I don't like the look of the non-rotating pins on an A1 atyle lower. I found this on the specialized armament website: SP63165 HAMMER & HAMMER PIN RETAINER ASSY, (0.170), SEMI (CURRENT) 40.00 This should work, right? |
