If I have an A3 upper, can I buy a 300 blkout, .308 or 6.8 spc barrel to put on it, and with the excpition of the .308 what parts of the lower would I need to change, and what type of bolt? I know I would need new bolt and charging handle for a .308 build but what about the 300 and 6.8 build?
Thanks
Adam

.308 requires a completely different receiver.

If the upper is for a 5.56 you cant build a 308 for it. But you can put a 6.8 or blackout barrel on it. The 6.8 and blackout use the same parts as the 5.56 for the lower so you dont need to change that. The 6.8 uses a different bolt than the 5.56 but the blackout uses a 5.56 bolt.

308 Win and its variances (260 Rem, 7mm-08, 338 Win, 243 Win, etc.) do not work with AR15 platform, you'll need an AR10 for that. If you want a 30 caliber (7.62mm) in an AR15 you are limited to 7.62x39mm Russian, 300 Blackout, 300 Whisper, and 30 Remington.

Out of all these cartridges and the ones you mentioned on you original post (OP) the 300 Blackout is the one which will need the least changes to your current set up. The 300 Blackout uses the same components as a regular 5.56x45mm AR15 with the exception of the barrel.

In my opinion, I would go with 7.62x39mm because it provides all the advantages of any .30 caliber and takes advantage of cheap surplus ammo readably available anywhere and over the net. I have a 7.62x39mm and could not love it more; I can go hunting deer and hogs, go plinking, or use it as home defense rig.

Thanks for all the answers, I'm torn between building a 6.8 , 300 blkout, 7.62, sbr to run my SDN-6 on as well as my SBR 5.56 current build or just buying a match glass beded M14
