Hi everyone, new member here but long time lurker. I'm planning to start my first build, and I'm stumped on what stripped lower receiver to get. I would like to spend under $120 so with that in mind what lower would provide me the best value for the money.

I think it's hard to beat the Aero Gen 2 lowers for the money. Especially if you wait for a blem deal.

Just that there's some cosmetic blemish that doesn't effect function, but they can't quite sell it as "new". Think hail sale for cars, just much less severe. I just built one of their blemished lowers, and I honestly can't find anything I'd call a blemish.

"Blem" items are products with some kind of small cosmetic imperfection. Totally functional, and usually not a problem you would ever notice. I have four or five blem Aeros and haven't found any of the blems yet.

Here, everything you need along with their sources. All those lowers are good. The only differences are: markings and prices. I'd not spend more than $80 for a lower unless it has some special marking that I like. A milspec lower is a milspec lower.

I'd call it ideal, but not really important. It's the easiest way to get your upper and lower to have matching colors.

If you go Mega, probably.  To answer your other question, I like them better because the finish is deep black and really nice.  That's why I would recommend a Mega upper to go with it, so they will match better.

Any other lower I would mate with an Aero upper.  That's pretty much the only upper I use, if it's not on a Mega lower.

I just posted two good links in the Pre-Hillary receiver thread for Aero.

Yes, I have two. I'd stick to their standard upper. Their enhanced upper may not be compatible with other handguards.

I only buy their blemished parts though - don't care about the blemish.

https://buynfdn.com/checkout-d.php?token=2143524t993f5c9870889ab7e6724c044a763c20

Looks cheap on this one.

In the AR15 worlds, uppers and lowers aren't that important. They, even the worst ones, easily outlast the barrels. As long as they are milspec and as long as they fit, you are good. Don't waste money on uppers or lowers. Spend money on a better barrel and a decent Bolt Carrier Group (BCG). The rest really don't matter except for cosmetics.

Very similar other than the spikes being low-shelf and Aero high-shelf. I have a total of 4 Spikes- two fully built out. My Honey Badger has some slight machining marks on the inside of the magwell, no big issue though(probably a blem)- Honestly, I would buy whatever you can find in stock right now. Maybe buy 2..or 3

All the same. Most lowers are made by 4 large companies. Companies such as Spikes buy them in bulk for $20-$30 a piece and slap on their own logo and a price tag of $150 - $350.

Some people who give a lot of attention to detail will often buy a matching set for color matching and a tight lock up. Small details end up making a nice rifle.

It would also benefit you to go to multiple manufacturing websites, open a free account, find a lower you like and then get on their "back in stock" email notification. Check email every day. Since you are new to this, find a local gun store or local dealer and have their FFL # and information ready to go so when you get your notification you can purchase the lower receiver immediately without any hangups.

Go here and find a FFL dealer near you.

$15-$25 is a good price for a transfer.

Not an expert on any of these. I can only tell you what I heard and what I did. Personally I just use PSA MOE LPK.

For triggers, Geissele seems to be the king of the world. I have two and both are fantastic. On the cheap, the PSA EPT trigger and Toms Tactical Enhanced trigger are great for less than $40. I have both and like both. They aren't Geissele but they are much better than milspec triggers. Next up would be ALG triggers around $65. Right now I am waiting on a LaRue MBT trigger. :-)

I said this before. In the AR world the priority should go like this: barrel, trigger, and BCG. The rest of the parts mostly only make cosmetic differences, and they for most part will outlast the best barrel you put on your gun. Don't go crazy on BCG either, no more than $120 is my limit. This is why I always buy blemished parts but won't hesitate to drop good money on a barrel. :-) I usually buy the blemished PSA EPT completed Lower as it comes with everything I need. I also scored a few blemished PSA full-auto BCG for $80 each over the weekend. They are still selling their blemished nickel BCG for $129.

I have a collection of lowers from Anderson, Areo Precision, Mega, and Spikes. Bought a few Anderson lowers for $49.00 years ago and that is the only thing good I can say about them.

I know the common phrase is "a lower is a lower" and that may be true, but its quality of the finish product and all the little features that matters to me. Andersons finish/anodizing sucks compared to the others. They also don't have the flared magwell like the others. You have to feel it and see it side by side with the others to see the difference.

Best bang for the buck is Areo Precision. I would buy it over an Anderson everytime. Pay a little more and get a lot better lower. There is a reason why you see a lot of complaints with Anderson stuff. My favorite lower is the Mega though.

Guess what lowers I will be selling during the panic?

I have built two Anderson recievered rifles with no complaints.

My newer one (purchased this spring) has the same dark semigloss finish my brother's Aero has, the rollmark and text are milled much deeper too.  My first set has a more parkerized looking finish to them.

(newer on left)

Your results may vary but my last two (I am working on my third now) were $55+tax at my LGS.  That is with whatever it takes for him to get in figured in (shipping/transfer/whatever)

Yes it is.  Very high quality at a reasonable price. Consider the CMMG "Gunbuilder" lpk, if you want to select your own trigger and grip.  It comes with everything else, but no hammer/trigger parts and no grip.  Many people have a particular trigger they prefer and also like to select a grip other than the standard carbine grip that comes in the kit.

If you are happy to start with with a mil spec trigger and grip, then get the complete lpk.  Just wanted to let you know that the CMMG Gunbuilder option is available and can save you money if you want a different trigger, grip or both.
