So my friend and I were finally putting together his ar last night, and the flashider that came on the upper will not budge. the plan is to silver solder this bushmaster muzzle brake onto the threads.  what sort of force is needed to get these things off? figured it might be locktite so we heated it up, from a friends advice with no such luck.  dont want to break anything here, so any suggestions?
thanks

As you mentioned "flashider" and did not state out-right whether the upper is PRE or POST ban, the assumption would be your asking about a pre-ban upper. All I ever needed was an AR tool to get one off, for the most part they come off relatively easy.

Given your trouble feel inclined to mention that Post-ban rifle upper "muzzle-devices" may be "PINNED" on, suspect your aware of this.

Do you have some brass barrel vise inserts to use to hold the barrel tight, perhaps this may help.

Yep, I think the ASS umption got you. So many people use terms for 'muzzle devices' interchangably that it is impossible to determine whether it is pre or post ban. Since a lot of 'em call it a muzzle "break",(as if it's broken), can't always be sure what they're referring to. I'm betting it is soldered or pinned, depending on who made/assembled it.

As you have mentioned that the barrel is bushmaster. Let me guess, it that a 14.5" M4 barrel you got? If so, even if it's "pre-ban", the flash hider may still be pinned just so bushmaster does not have to deal with the NFA rule about the short barrel rifle issue, just my 2 cents.

sorry for not making that clear. it is a J&T EM-4 pre ban upper.  just the muzzle brake is a bushmaster one.  we decieded the izzy brake would be the closest thing to the phantom fh which it appears to be modeled after.  ill probably just give j&t a call monday.
thanks again
