I was trying remove a full lenghth buffer tube to install car length. I do not have receiver blocks and installed the tube without them a year ago( w/antiseize on the threads). I did not exceed the torque spec at that time. For removal; first I tried the combo wrench with an extension bar while anchoring the receiver on the bench. The combo wrench began to deform the flats a little so I put some Kroil at the top of the tube and kept it elevated to let it work in. Next I placed the flats of the tube in the small vise with the receiver pointing up. I have and have made a couple of careful attempts to turn the lower of the tube but I can feel the flats rounding a little. I just put a little more Kroil in and tightened the vise and am letting it sit. Oh yeah the question. .....I am fully prepared to trash the tube at this point. If and when I have to abandon saving the tube what can I do to pull out the stops and get this tube off? Any help is appreciated. JR |
| Put the complete receiver and extension tube in the freezer for about an hour, then use a propane torch to head the back of the extension tube or dip the extension tube into a very hot bucket of water and then use a strap wrench to loosen it. Should come right off. |
