I had planned to buy a somplete, but it appears that there are financial advantages to buying an upper and lower and putting them together. I have heard of Colt using different size pins and of the existance of commercial vs .mil buffers etc. If all I plan to do it put a complete upper onto a complete lower, do I have any fit/function concerns to address? If I do a seperate upper lower buy (for my first AR) I will be using a CMMG upper. Anyone know of a lower that is a good match? Thanks all! |
It might be your freind, but I have had VERY limited luck with it. If I knew more about ARs (enough to formulate good search parameters) perhaps I'd be better off. But if you are fuzzy on the concept, your in a tough spot. ...And if you don't get good hits the first try, the one minute rule is maddening. |
So the rule is, Colt Uppers to Colt lowers only. And Any other upper to any other lower? We are talking about the pivot pin and takedown pin right? What about the buffer tube, I've heard talk of incompatibilities with those but I don't understand the rules there either. |

| Also, crappy Professional Ordinance Carbon fiber upper/lowers you might find will have the takedown pins located in different positions than standard AR15's. You probably don't have to worry about it since they went bankrupt and were bought out by Bushmaster, who went on to fix this and many more problems with these rifles. Anyway, if you see one for sale, as a rifle or for parts, don't buy it!!! |
