Im getting a bushmaster (probably not the C15 as most of you have told me to be wary of it, and it's not the thing exploding that worries me so much as i'm a lefty and the ejection port is facing me so if it were to explode well... the shrapnel would say "Hello!" to my face).

But... anyways... does a Bushmaster XM15 M4 (which is chambered for .223 Rem's i believe) have the capability of firing 5.56 mm rounds?

Thanks!

Offhand I'd say HELL NO! Anything that is advertised as .223 should not be fired with the 5.56 military rounds. The 5.56 is a higher pressure round.

If you have such a question, Email Bushmaster and ask them. But again I'd say not to do so.

And... there are no stupid questions, Doug. Only stupid mistakes!

According to Bushmaster's web site you can get the XM15 M4 in .223 or 5.56

So go with the 5.56 and then you need to decide if you want the Izzy or A2 Birdcage flash suppressor.

I'd would go with the A2 Birdcage because it states that it is threaded.
The Izzy is permanently attatched.
Later on you might want to put a different flash hider or brake on and will be able to do so.

BTW...nice choice of AR

Am not sure about "all" their web site shows some with .223 chamber.

Call them, they will have you one in 5.56. I would not buy one chambered in 223 myself, the neck on the 5.56 casing is just a bit longer but it is long enough to cause you extraction problems in the 223 chambering.

all of the AR barrels that Bushy sells are 5.56 except for the "match"/DCM barrels.
I have bought three of their barrals and they were all 5.56 and there was no choice for .223 or 5.56

And the tech sheet said that it is chambered for both rounds.  Its the A3M4 Patrolman Bushmaster, very nice gun.

All CHROME LINED Bushmaster barrels are chambered for 5.56.  Most of their non-chrome lined barrels have a .223 chamber.

I believe those are what BM calls a hybrid SAAMI chambering. Safe for both .223 and 5.56mm.

I can't believe you let these guys talk you out of the C15

Mine is a chrome-plated barrel.

And yes they did, haha, but i like the other one better, plus the C15 was used and the A3M4 is New.  Bushmaster would have replaced a broken reciever for Life, that's the funny part.  But if it were to break, i am a lefty and its a right handed gun and the shards of carbon would be in my face.

But yes...  i'm going with the A3M4 and it IS chambered for 5.56 and .223
