Getting close to finishing my build. What free float is the most popular right now and why?

I don't need a handful of pic rail.  I am leaning on toward a clean a mid length over a carbine low pro gas block on a 16 inch tube.

Suggestions with pics would be helpful.

I dont have a whole lot of experience with different rails, but I like the Troy Alpha.  I used a 9" on a pistol build and liked it enough to use an 11" on a midlength I put together.  They are reasonably priced, lightweight, and lock up tight using a standard barrel nut.  They also fit my smaller hands well.

I picked this one two years ago to put on my BCM mid-lenght. I liked the way it locks onto the upper. Very well made

I just installed a Daniel Defense MFR on one of my rifles and I'm really pretty pleased with it. I've only ever owned quad rails but I wanted to try something different for my bench gun.

I also have a Troy TRX Alpha rail and I'm really happy with it.

-Not terribly expensive (for a rail)
-Extremely light weight
-Comes with enough rail sections to mount whatever you want
-Small circumference makes holding onto it comfortable without the use of hand stops, vert grips, etc
-Mounts with a standard barrel nut and easy to install

What barrel length and FF length is that?

What gas blck fits under the small diameter Troy, I like that set up. My rifle is a Yote gun and that would be perfect.

Midwest Industries Gen 2 free float rails are good.  Just put one on my BCM mid upper.  It's a 2 piece so you don't have to remove your front site post or barrel to install.

it doesn't break the bank either.  Very glad someone recommended it to me.

I would definitely say the new Troy Alpha series, or the MI Gen II SS. Both are very inexpensive, with the MI being slightly cheaper. Many modular free float rails are 2" diameter, however the troy is about 1.75" and the MI is actually 1.5". It seems many have gravitated towards the smaller diameter modular free floats. The great thing about these two rails is they are both very light, with the MI being slightly lighter. There are two versions of the Troy, the TRX and the VTAC. They are the same thing except the TRX has circular venting and the VTAC has slotted venting. I personally have the VTAC and find it to be an excellent rail with a super easy install and solid clamping system. It also uses the standard barrel nut so not having to remove the barrel nut meant I did not have to spend a bunch of money on wrenches and vice blocks. Some use a proprietary barrel nut.

What length looks like the Troy posted above with a 16in barrel?  I like the Samson better but want the Troy length on my rifle.   The Samson install is a EASY.

It is a new build from a totally stripped upper and barrel.

I use a dpms rifle length ff tube, cost about 60 bucks and zero rails to get in the way.

I just got the Troy VTAC rail for my current build and really like it.  Pic below of the current state, still waiting on a few parts to finish.

I used an Troy alpha 13" w/ sight for my 300 build and it is great. It is lighter than a quad rail and nice and thin for a comfortable grip. also it mounts up rock solid

A lot of people will say that the Daniel Defense lite rail is the best on the market right meow.  Its pic quad rail though.....

Kinda pricy but you get what you pay for.

If you want lightweight/tube style that you can attach rail sections to: Troy Alpha (personally like the extreme version over the vtac as well)
If you want a quad rail: Centurion C4

That is a gorgeous gun. I have the Rainier Arms version of that Samson rail on my midlength build and it's outstanding. It uses the standard barrel nut as well and comes with two rail sections and a qd swivel attachment. For $150 it can't be beat.

^^^ Exactly what I was going to say.  Another option for lightweight is the Noveske NSR.

I've got a mi ss10 gen 1 on a light weight mid length dti barrel. It is a 2" diameter tube but  feels nice.the jp tube on my 308 is the same diameter so I have similar ergonomics between them. The only gripe I have is the crap set screw on the bottom.

I'm really digging the Samson Evolution. Easy installation, rock solid, perfect profile, and priced right.

Midwest Industries S.S. Gen 2 is the greatest thing since sliced bread! It's lighter than the Try Alpha and it's smaller in diameter.

the only problem I have with the troy TRX FF rail is its gets really hot after 600+ rounds even for gloves I really liked the DD omega rail good and strudy for a simple FF rail can be had on the EE for 200
