Looking at an old Catalog for Aimsurplus dated Aug 2003; Then: Silver Bear 7.62x39 $84.95/1000 Now: Silver Bear 7.623x39 $159.90/1000 Prices on 5.56NATO then were at $149.95/1000 for Sellior & Bellot. Basically we are to believe that somehow ammo prices doubled in just over three years- import ammo mind you? Did copper, lead, or brass double? Did the US dollar fall that much? What other market dealing in product being offered from second world nations has suddenly doubled? NONE. I am guessing these importers think we are stupid as they keep raising prices yet selling the same "cheap" surplus that was on their shelves last year. I see now on their website they are selling 25 year old surplus Guat for near what new stuff costs. Aim was one of the good ones but I guess they joined the frey along with everyone else toting this BS price scam. My rifles can collect dust at this ammo price gouging, I don't care enough to be taken advantage of, and their is no justification for it. Some would say good, more for you but hey why not- obviously as a group we don't care. Our representatives decide which rights they see fit for us to have while we calmly allow them to take away our guns. Then importers decide to rape us on ammo prices and we keep paying. If any other industry was pulling this shit you can bet the justice department would be doing a full investigation for price fixing- but hey were gun owners so we're expected to beg for our rights and take it in the rear. Enough is enough. C77 |
I 100% agree. It's kind of like if everyone went without buying gas for a week, the price would plummit. The oil and ammo companies know that they have us by the balls and that people will pay for their outrageous prices, no matter what. |

People keep buying the stuff,so dealers charge what they can get.Personally,I see no ammo shortage(except for surp 308) Every shop I went to this weekend had stacks of XM193 and crates of Guat,at rediculous prices. In addition to cases upon cases of various military calibers. When one dealer told me he had to raise the prices of Korean surplus 30-06 because the prices of raw materials have went up,I knew from that point we as consumers were being taken for a ride.Another comment from a differant dealer alluded to the fact you can't get surplus 30-06 anymore, therefore his high prices were justifiable. If we stop paying the assrape prices, they will in effect go down. |
| The only ammo I am buying right now is the ammo at my Base AAFES. They just put in the counter and if they do not get enough turnover they are going to pull out. I will pay the $6.45 for XM193 and 3.20 for Wolf because I want to keep them going. My wife will get a Glock 19 from there because I can put it on the star card and I have some of those Star Discount coupons 10-15% off. They Sell ALL ATK products and also Wolf .223 and 7.62x39 military classic. They can only sell the steel stuff do to the contract. |
In Summer 2003: Oil cost about $30 a barrel copper was $.75 a pound lead was $.23 a pound Gold was $350 an ounce silver was $5 an ounce Today: Oil is $55 down from the $60's recently copper is $2.61 a pound Lead is $.73 a pound Gold is $600 an ounce silver is $12 an ounce |
Silver is doing better than gold eh? |

Did you EVER, even for a SPLIT SECOND, consider that maybe the ammo you're buying in 2006 isn't too EXPENSIVE, but that the ammo you were buying in 2003 was too CHEAP? To not even consider that is a gross logical fallacy. There is obviously less ammo out there. People are sold out of all sorts of things. When there is a smaller supply, there are higher prices. This is not a conspiracy to screw you over. Take a second to think about what you would do if you were a supplier. If you cut your prices in half to go back to 2003 rates, your stock would be sold out in 20 minutes. You would have been making money in 2003, but you just lost money in 2006. You may have made a profit, but it's nowhere near the profit you needed to go and find a new supply of ammo. So wonderful, a supplier makes YOU happy by giving away cheap ammo, but then the same supplier can't even afford to restock his shelves at the day's going rates. Either pay the going price, or don't pay the going price. But for God's sake, stop bitching about it. |
-1 not me. I'm willing to bet that this ends within the next year. As Ihave said before, we have gone through dry spells in the past. Both 7.62 and 556 surplus ammo. Sooner or later it will arrive. I'm saving until then and using my stash for the time being. I have about 6 years worth, so I can weather the storm for a while |
