So, how are you guys clamping these to install a barrel?  The manufacturer tells me that a standard folding action block won't work.

I wonder if I could just clamp it in the vise with two blocks of wood, sort of like the lower picture.  Anybody tried that?

Very interesting - the moral of his story seems to be "don't pound on the wrench with a 32 oz. dead blow hammer".

Since I'll be building a new one (and I have a standard vise block for my old receiver) the wooden blocks may be enough.  

Has anybody else used the poly cutting board trick successfully?  Or wooden blocks?

Yes, it has been done successfully...as illustrated here. I'm still a right tool/right job guy though.

I'm guessing it's because it doesn't have the tower like the DPMS that fits up inside the receiver for additional bracing.  For more detailed info on the Schuster block contact Steve at ADCO.
