Hi everyone, I'm new to the board and am getting ready to build my first AR. My question is: Superior Arms advertises a set screw on their lower receiver for taking up the slack in the trigger to turn it into more of a match trigger- does it work? I'm not a stranger to rifles and tuning triggers, and know there's more than taking up the slack to tuning a trigger, but I know nothing about AR triggers. Since I am planning on building a varmit gun with a 24" bull barrel, I would prefer a decent trigger, but am on a budget. Thanks for any info.

I have two SA lowers with the screw set to just where the selector still works. Does it work? I don't know. I know that when I pull the trigger there is very little movement before the hammer drops on the firing pin. I am thinking movement up to the break on a single stage trigger is called creep. My two do not seem to have any creep, if I am using the proper terminology. HOWEVER, before I set the screw on one of them, it seemed to exhibit the same behavior. Maybe I have more creep than what others find acceptable and I am just not picky enough yet. I have only shot single stage triggers that mostly have a good bit of trigger pull until it breaks. My GLOCKs with the NY1 springs have this feel and long pull. My AK-47 has a longer pull too. When I compare to those weapons, my AR doesn't move much at all before it goes bang.
It's worth a try since SA lowers are around $90 or less. You can always drop in the RRA 2 stage trigger for around $90 later.

Thanks, Redduck. I'll play with the Superior Arms system first, the price is certainly right. Like you said, I can save for something better if I don't like it, and add it then.
