Just checking to see if a Surefire 500 series weapon light (the one with integrated M4 handguard) would fit on a Stag upper. I understand there are some tolerance variations between Colt M4 uppers and others in regards to the handguards (akin to the M.I. #17 carbine handguards, 1 set made for Colt, another to fit the rest)....

I have never heard that they wouldn't. Although Stag/CMT makes things for Colt (from what I hear) Stag is not Colt. As long as the Stag upper uses standard hand guard caps (which I am sure they do) the m500 should fit without issues.
