Last year my wife bought me a Surefire 60 for my patrol rifle as a birthday present. I ran a few cycles through it and it worked well so I put it into service as part of my kit.
Fast forward to a moth or two later, I go to the range and in the middle of a course of fire I get a nasty double feed. I transition to my pistol to finish the course and inspect what went wrong. When I removed the 60 the rounds in the "tower" section that goes in the magwell were loose and freely dumped out when I turned the mag over. I smack on the back of the mag caused the follower to unstick and seat the remaining rounds. I reloaded the 60 and it did the same this on a second test run WTF!
With two major failures I called Surefire and got an RMA, I shipped them the mag and they sent me a brand new one. This is not a range toy I kinda need this thing to work every time So second verse same as the first, I ran a quite a few cycles through the new mag (like 10) it and it worked well so I put it into service as part of my kit. And again fast forward to a month or two later, I go to the range and in the middle of a course of fire I get a nasty double feed FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK! Same problem the follower (or something) is getting stuck and causing the rounds to be all loose in the tower portion. Has anyone else had this issue, did I just get 2 bad ones in a row or are these mags mall-ninja range-only shit. Details: Rifle- Sig 556 2500+ rounds the only failures EVER have been with the Surefire mags. It run like a top with Pmags, and GI mags Ammmo- Black Hills 55 grain or Hornady TAP 55 grain. No steel case, No long bullets (75 grain) I have not put any lube (dry or otherwise) into it |
| I love Surefire and they will go to the ends of the earth to please you, but a 60 round mag is just stupid. It's heavy, if you have a malfunction and dump the mag you just threw away potentially 200% more ammo than with a 30-round mag, it's got more potential for things to go wrong. |

The reason I went with the 60 is there have been a couple of instances where I did not have time to grab my carrier which has extra mags on it. There was only time to grab my rifle and run
I wanted a second mag on the rifle and I have found through experience that couplers are cumbersome. As far as weight goes I am not on a long range patrol, the furthest I would have to hump my pig of a rifle is a few miles on a K9 track and that is such a rare occurrence that I would not even take it into consideration. Beside in that instance I would have time to drop the 60 and grab 2 30s out of my carrier. I like the consolidation of 2 mags into 1 but I hate questioning the reliability |
| I think the problem where the follower is hanging up is where the rounds starts going into the quad stacking body. I think this is where that majority of the problems/complaints of the 60 has been occurred. The 60 I have has not encounter any feeding problems yet. |

Get a Redi Mag. I don't have any personal experience with the Surefire 60 Rounders, however, I wouldn't put something to use while on patrol after it had issues like that, not once, but twice.
The Redi Mag lets you keep a spare mag on the rifle at all times and is basically foolproof. I ran one for a while but ditched it due to the extra weight. You already stated weight isn't a concern, so it seems like it would be the best solution. |

Honestly you should not be using this mag for that purpose. It's just too hit or miss. The mag it's self is way to complex & anything can happen. I have several & haven had an issue but I would never trust a mag like this to SD use. 2 pamgs with a coupler will fit this roll. Or a redi mag setup, or tape a mag to the stock. |

A 60 round mag that works is great! The fastest reload is the one you don't have to make. If you use your argument that your throwing away your ammo in a malfunction then we should all go to 10 round mags to minimize this. (kidding) But that said I only use my Surefire mags for 3 gun and only on stages where they are needed. I don't trust them for real world use. Pat |
