| I love my surefire 6P, and would like to mount it on my railed FF tube. Has anyone ever had any problems or breakage with the bulb or filament from recoil or other factors? I'm a cheap bastard and don't feel a $300-$600 surefire is necessary when my little 6P does great. Also, who knows of cheap durable mounts for them? The bulb is a 120 lumen if that matters... Thanks for any input, MPGunner21 |

Though I like to have every safeguard possible, with the AR, a lot of folks have gotten by with the G2's & 6P's w/ little to no problem. Aside from the shock isolated bezel, the Classic & MU series have the battery isolation feature which can be crucial for higher recoil weaponry or extensive use. If your weapon is used for LEO or military application then you might want to put a little more thought into going with at least a Classic series. If your rifle won't see heavy use or abuse with the light always attached then the scale tips more towards the 6P with Z32 shock isolated bezel. Adding the Z32 will at least give you one safeguard. When you consider the cost difference between a Classic series weaponslight and a 6P setup, you could consider spending a few $ on buying a second light for backup or at least a SC1 and spare lamp assembly for your gear. As for a mount, I'm not sure what's best to recommend. My absolute favorite is the std. Weaver brand Weaver ring but it won't be q.d. Second on my list of toughest mounts is using a 1" Leupold QRW (throw lever) ring. Next options are the KAC, FAS2, etc. type mounts; I like the FAS2 with the G2 but not with alum. bodied lights. |

I have a 6P with a tape switch mounted in a KAC 1" ring allmost identicle to the one above (except my 6P is about 8 years old now). It's a work gun, and I've shot the hell out it with the light in place. I've seen no noticable ill-effect on the light. Works fine for me. |

Ken Good who used to teach at Surefire's low light classes and still teaches low light classes posted here that as an instructor, he has seen many, many people using these set ups. He also said he has seen many, many failures with these set ups. Its good to know that a couple people we know have used these set ups with no ill effect. But its all about odds and percentages really. A guy who sees and uses these lights every day on weapons, probably hundreds more than we'll ever see didnt have faith in them. He sees a much higher percentage of these systems being used. He also sees many more of them fail. While this "may" work for you, and while its true that even a weapons specific light can fail, I think its best to try and set something up with the best chances of success. A handheld on a weapon is not that. Enough so for me to not recomend it. |

I e-mailed Surefire and they do not reccomend their M2 be weapon mounted and I think the M2 is stronger than the C2. I was asking which mounting system they reccomended for an AR. Your experiance may vary tho... and I would like to know more. Is there a successfull mount? |

It's not so much the mounting situation (though you want a solid setup) but more the recoil issues. Weapons systems have two main aspects: a shock isolated bezel & battery retention which keeps the recoil from slamming the batteries into the lamp assy. Lowering the vibration of the lamp is a significant factor in preserving it. The M2 would only have the shock isolated bezel safeguard. As far as mounting the M2 is concerned, a std. Weaver brand Weaver ring will give you about the tighest clamp possible. |

Quoted: KAC flashlight mount and 6P... Thats the exact setup, I've used for years with absolutely zero problems. Surefire 6P, shock isolating bezel, KAC 1" light mount. I will admitt to be looking forward to getting my M962, but the 6P setup has worked for years with probably 10 thousand+ rounds through the rifle its mounted on. |

hmmmm, some guys had failures, some no problem at all. Well, I'm gonna try it with a Z32 bezel and see what happens. If I blow a $15 bulb, I'll still live. I mainly was concerned for short time usage, such as in case of an in-home emergency. I wasn't planning to hit the range at night and dump a couple mags downrange. Thanks for the opinions guys, that's why this site is a great resource. |
