I have recently purchased a Surefire 951 and was wondering after receiving I had noticed the head of the light is a slightly lighter color then the body of the light. After researching on here and Google I have noticed that some of the 951 are a solid color silver others do have a slightly different colored head and some black. Can anyone shed any info on this as to why there are so many different color issues or as to why some are silver and some are black. After searching on Surefire sight I was not able to find any info but even a local gun shop has told me they have noticed the same issues on some of theirs.
Thanks ahead of time for any info with this. |

It is normal for HA not to match from component to component.
SureFire's M95 is Mil-Spec Type III "Hard" Anodised. The "HA" is "natural" rather than coloured as this is more durable. As a performance finish rather than purely for aesthetics, the anodisation is grown for thickness and other durability characteristics. SureFire machines it's components at it's state of the art CNC production facility in SoCal on a component-by-component, batch-by-batch basis. It is normal for the various components of a SureFire flashlight to be machined from different pieces of bar-stock. Anodisation is performed in batches as well. Anodisation has to be carefully controlled by skilled and experience technicians and the hue/shade/tone of natural HA has a lot to do with the volume/surface area ratio and number of components in the bath. Other factors also contribute to obviously different HA shades. Given that the primary performance characteristic is anodisation thickness SureFire is far more concerned to get this right and far less concerned to match the HA across the various flashlight components. It is also worth noting that HA looks different under different lighting and camera settings. The difference can be far more obvious in photos compared to real-life. |

Thank you Size15s!! I appreciate your detailed response, I had figured pieces were not always HA together and some pieces would not be made out of the same cut material. I was just wanting to make sure the color variation was suppose to be normal.
THANK YOU AGAIN |
