I got for Christmas a Surefire A2 Aviator flashlight.  I went to use the other day and the center 'High Beam' light would not come on.  I have not used it that much, in fact I am still on the original packaged batteries.  Did my bulb wear out, or are the batteries just so so low that they wont run that center bulb?  I am confused because I didnt even see it go dim for a duration, just working, then not.  Some guidance, please.

Did you try some new batteries??  Seems like that would be an easy test.

Oh, and if you didn't know, you can get SureFire batteries from ARFCOM vendors or direct from SureFire for $15-$18 per dozen!  Buying one pack at your local Walmart or photo shop can cost you $5.00 up to $10 a pair!  (At least that's the cost around here.)

tag to find out what's up with your light.

Well, thats the problem, $10 for a pair of batteries, is an expensive troubleshoot.  Can you send me a link where I can find the value packs of 123's?

How to put this nicely without sounding like a sarcastic a$$hole....

Did you try screwing the tailcap assembly all the way in?  Are you familiar with how the amount the tailcap is screwed on limits which mode the light operates in?  No offense meant, just lots of folks don't RTFM.

edited to add:  Brightflashlights or G&R (Industry forums), or Surefire.com direct sell the batteries for a very reasonable  ~$1.25 each.

I figured the battery swap issue was $$ related.  That's why I mentioned getting them from other sources.    I've been there & done that.

I buy a lot from Grant at G&R Tactical, so I just order a dozen batteries every few orders.

I have some 123s in my Streamlights back home, but I am currently on assignment with the Air Force Reserves, so I may just wait until I get back to try them.
