Looks like something that falls between plugs and amplified muffs.  Do they deliver on the stated performance claims?

They're good for pistol ranges.

I would go up to the ep-4's. You get a better seal.

I have the medium and the small size EP3s. I can't get the small ones in and the mediums won't stay in. They work fine but I'm still trying to keep them on.

Pistol ranges or open area rifle work they seem pretty good. If you are shooting a rifle with any type of vertical sounding boards near, they are no dice IMHO.

When I am shooting at the indoor range I wear just them (keep them in the zipper case for my ESS Ice 2.4) but if I'm at the gun club shooting any of my rifles I wear them under standard over-ear protection as a supplement-

It never hurts to have too much ear protection.

I like to wear them under my amplified muffs.  Not enough protection for a day at the range by themselves IMHO.

OTOH, they would be IDEAL for situations where you can't wear full hearing protection but you may not fire at all or only fire a few rounds.  Hunting, LE, and military applications come immediately to mind.

I just received a pair of the EP4 medium size plugs.  I need to get used to them as I normally use electronic ear muffs.  I wanted to tried them as sometimes when shooting my AR-15, the ear muffs gets in the way when setting up for a good cheek weld.  The firing range I go to is all open with a roof overhead so it should be okay.

Let us know how they work out for you, once you have had a chance to put a few rounds down range

I've been using the EP-4s under my amplified muffs for the last couple of matches I've shot.

For being at the range all day I want more protection than the EP-4s provide by themselves. Under the muffs they are pretty much perfect. They don't block too much sound, like my NRR33 foam plugs do.

I finally was able to use the EP-4 on Saturday.  Looks like I'll be saying goodbye to my electronic ear protectors and using the SureFire plugs from now on.  The fit is great and feels comfortable.  It blocks out the loud stuff but I'm able to hear conversation well enough.  I'm glad I got them.

I use them instead of my amplified Peltor muffs because they allow a superior cheek weld for rifle shooting.  I don't feel underprotected even when shooting my AR-10.

The fit is outstanding and secure - much better than any foam earplug.   For the price they are unbeatable.  I can see them fulfilling tactical applications quite well.

They were a cheap add-on on one of my regular Brownell's orders.

I highly recommend them.
