| Any suggestions as to where the best place to purchase this product is? Also, what is the current availability of these weapon lights? The sites that I normally purchase AR parts from either doesn't carry this product or is sold out. So, I am looking for someone with more knowledge in this area. Thanks |

Do you really need that expensive of a light?
Get a Surefire 6P LED with a DD offset mount and you'll have a great light, that's mounted as solid as they come and, if you're so inclined, you can add a cover and a remote switch (I don't remote lights but the cover is cool and keeps the lense clean as I'm shooting in daylight most of the time). |

I just did a search and found a great "closeout" deal at LA Police Gear for $450:
http://www.lapolicegear.com/suvefom92.html No idea if they have any left in stock and haven't dealt with this outfit before but the price is right. I tend to get my stuff locally to support the small gun shops (unless the price is way out of line) - Surefire has a dealer list on their website if you want to check in your area. You may, however, want to hold out for the LED version (M900L) which is supposed to be coming any day; of course it has been coming any day for over a year now but who's counting... |

Just my point...$450!!! Are you nucking futs? The 6P LED w/mount will cost all of $180... Buy ammo with the difference. Oh, I agree... as a M900 owner I do have to give SF credit for a very nice product, but every day I get more and more jaded with their pricing - the new scout light MSRPs > $600 - silly, but as long as people keep paying and they keep shipping to the gov't I don't suppose the prices will ever be reasonable. To the OP - the M900 series is great, but unless you are sure about your purchase you should for sure find one locally and check it out hands-on before you buy - unless you absolutley require or are in love with the form factor, there are some other great alternatives as ftldrben points out. |

Thanks!
I too want to like the top of the line Surefire gear but there's a limit to even my addiction to gear and spending. Have you seen Surefire's new weapon light/laser combo? It's $451 verses the Streamlight TLR-2 (we've all been using) which you can get for less then $300, easily! Surefire is not worth that difference, sorry to say. But hey, they have great prices on their 123's, best pricing I've seen anywhere! |
|
Yeah, they may end up pricing themselves out of the market in a lot of cases. There's no denying the quality of their products but in many ways they aren't the prime innovators of their market segment as they once were and thus they've got some stiff competition in the marketplace - which is a very good thing!
It's a little funny about the batteries though - most companies really screw you with their consumables (HP comes to mind...) but for some reason SF has always had about the best price on batteries. |

I own several Surefire M500 forends, as well as a couple of 9v Millennium weaponlights. Like the M910, all of these 9v Surefires suffer a common problem-there is no viable LED option at this time.
For a $400+ light, that's a big problem. Surefire's Xenon run time is dismal-it always has been. I've been waiting patiently for an LED retrofit option, but I'm running out of patience. The ergonomics of the M500 are perfect for me, but if I don't see an LED fairly soon I'm going to get an LED Scout for my newest LE6920. Like the M500, the M910 is a good piece of gear-but current technology has passed it by. I still favor mine because I really like the switching options, and not having exposed wires. |

I bought mine used off the EE for $350, and it was in perfect shape! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/Stalker61/CQB.jpg Nice rig, and nice photo too! You are far more accomplished with a camera than I am. I bought a Nikon D80 a few months back, and I realized that photography is just like shooting: you can't buy proficiency, it takes practice |

Thanks, I shot it with a Rebel XTi and used this thread to help me along How to take descent photos in your bathtub Thanks for the link. I never thought about taking gun pics in the bathtub, but that makes perfect sense. I made a small lightbox for taking photos of the greeting cards my wife makes as a hobby. A bathtub is the same thing writ large. Thanks again |
| I can see why they are so expensive... A VFG and light combo that weighs 20oz, puts out 125 lumens for an hour, and turns the LEDs on when wet... who wouldnt want that? Especially at the low price of $500+ dollars... I mean where else you gonna find a product and deal like that? |

This may be just as good for most of us, and has a laser:
Alternative 1 or this: alternative 2 The main drawback of the surefire is the runtime and WEIGHT. |
